I was doing so well with BS levels Low 100's to 130. Now all of the sudden (last 3-4 days ) I get in the 170's. I can't figure whats going on? I Am exerciising the same and eating the. The only difference is my neuropathy has been out of control. The pain only lets me sleep a few hrs at most. Will lack of sleep or the pain make my BS rise?

I know exactly what you mean. I am taking prednisone and neurontin for neuropathy. I am getting off of prednisone this week (finally). That will restore by BG to the 90's to a little over 100 again. Pain alone I'm finding out can raise your BG, as can the chemicals that you are releasing or suppressing by merely having neouopathy.

It's hard to take words of encouragement when you're in pain but I am in the same place and beginning to feel better. I sincerely wish you the best.

Luckily I'm not sick. I guess it must be the pain? I just read that Codeine might cause a rise in BS which I started to take for the pain. So it looks either way my BS is going to be high. YEA! No matter what you do this disease finds some way to make life as miserable as possible! Some times I feel like I'm living in a prison!! I try to do every thing I'm told to and I still get pain, high numbers, no sleep, ect.

Yeah, codeine can raise blood sugar. Also, don't discount sickness. By the time you get symptoms your body has already been fighting the sickness for a while and that's the time your blood sugars will start to rise. It maybe that within the next week you start to get the symptoms of being sick. However, it's probably the neuropathy and codeine!

Both will cause problems with blood sugar. Any sort of stress, physical or emotional, will cause a rise in blood sugar. Also, I usually notice that a few days before I get symptoms of being sick that my blood sugar is significantly higher. For instance, a few days ago I woke up with a fasting level of 205. Sure enough, each day since then my fasting has gone down and a cold has been getting progressively worse.
