I got lazy a few months ago and stopped writing Diet and Exercise if any one wants it back in 2011 please let me know. I only have one New Years Resolution for this coming year and that is to plan my days and follow it. In this manner I may be able to keep up with everything I want to do. If I am going to be gone for any length of time I will post it on Line here for all to know and then check it as often as I can where ever I am. If I can't get online then as soon as I get home I will spend my first day back catching up on Diabetic Connect first and then the rest can fall into place as I can get to it.
My quilting is still on hold as Bill hasn't finished my Quilting/Computer Room yet.
LOL I think this is his way to keep me out of here most days. Well starting next month I will catch up online and then start to move quilting stuff back in will remove it when he gets around to doing the paneling and the ceiling of the room.

I have found that walking at least 30 mins a day helps me to lose some of the flab that I have been carrying around my middle for along time. Had to stay in yesterday as I fell going out the Front Door. Black ice on porch and didn't realize it was there stoped when I hit the railing and the trash bag I had been carrying out to put in trash can. LOL The railing stoped me from going down the steps. Hip still hurts and so does my right knee.

Well for me right now I am not exercising but had just started before Christmas. I did a real stupid thing and dropped a 2-lb weight on my already messed up left foot and now I at least have a fractured little toe and possibly have a crack on the outside edge of my left foot. I am not going to give up on exercise but will not do anything that has to do with the use of my left foot. I can do stretches by sitting on the floor and I can maybe ride my stationary bike but not giving up is going to be key for me.

I do yoga every day and you would be surprised what you can do sitting in a chair. Public television has a show called "Sit and be Fit" . I started doing yoga in a class for round bodiesand there is a lot of great info in the book by that same name.

Thanks for the heads up. I will check into it and hopefully can get back to where I need to be.

Birch21 I am sorry to hear about your left foot. I just got back from a vacation with my oldest Daughter and her kids at Disney World and have a real bad cold. I also have not exercised since I got back till yesterday and the fresh air helps alittle. Starting tomorrow no matter how I am feeling I am getting back in shape one way or another. Streching is good for all of us. There are alot of exercises you can do sitting down and laying in bed. Leg lifts, sit ups, pushups, twists, bending down, you could also do some standing ones standin on your left heel if it hurts to much to stand on the left foot. I've had to do that at different times in the past as I have broken both of my little toes years ago. LOL 2x4 wood furniture don't move when you hit it with your bare feet in the middle of the night.

birch21 2011-01-02 15:34:13 -0600 Report

You are right there also about furniture not moving in the middle of the night. I to have whacked my little toe so many times at night and it generally has been the left toe. No matter what I am going to do my best and I thank you for some other ideas that I can try. I will be going to my foot doctor the 24 of this month as I am also dealing with some other foot ailments that started in July so who knows what my future holds as far as my left foot goes.

I was just looking for suggestions! In my job, city bus driver I drive 8 straight hours a day with no breaks! I bring snacks like peanut butter crackers, a breakfast bar, things like that. I am a type 2 diabetic and I am sure these things are not good for me. Any suggestions on what I can eat that would be more healthy? I'm talking take a bite at a red light! lol

Edie 2011-01-02 13:53:17 -0600 Report

Jdarosa, try carring a veggie tray with you to work. In your case baggies, when I am traveling I carry veggies, fruit slices and lots of water with me. What happens if you need to go to the bathroom during the day? Makes for a long day holding it in.

jdarosa 2011-01-02 17:31:43 -0600 Report

Thanks for the info Edie. I am going to definately start bringing a little fruit with me to work but I have to eat my veggies cooked. I do not like raw veggies at all…lol…Anyway, yes most days I don't get a chance for a restroom break but if we get a chance there is a nasty restroom in the terminal! lol

birch21 2011-01-01 17:12:45 -0600 Report

Would it be possible for you to have maybe and apple or banana that you could grad a bite of at those red lights. Wheat crackers would not go into sugar as fast as white crackers at least I think I am right on that one. Just a couple of suggestions.

jayabee52 2011-01-02 08:03:40 -0600 Report

an apple would be good, but I recommend that you do the glucometer test for the banana, and then make a decision. They're pretty high on the glycemic index for fruits. A lot of sugar content.
And it might be good to do the glucometer test on different varieties of apples too.

Glucometer test: Establish your baseline with a BG reading, eat the food you want to test, then 2 hours after the first bite, take your BG reading again. compare that reading with your baseline. You'll know how much that food raises your BG#s, and decide whether that's acceptable for you.

jdarosa 2011-01-02 17:17:59 -0600 Report

Thanks for the info jayabee. Yes bananas are not really good for me. I can take a couple of bites and that is it. Someone suggested using the Arnold thin breads, 100% whole wheat. I am not really big on bread but I am going to try it with a little bit of peanut butter. I am going to try the wheat crackers also that birch21 suggested. I am open for any other suggestions. Thanx!

Have you tried the Kind bars. The Nut Delight has 7 grams protein and 12 grams carbs. I sub it for a meal sometimes when I need to.

I need help on diet and exercise for 2011 if you can help I am a diabetic type 1 and I have the pump and I weight 197 and I want to lose 80 pounds I got in to the Team Beach Body and I am a coach in that I do have I don't know how many DVD Exercise types that I do not use I just need one for Diabetic so can you help me plz. Thanks Donna Best (dgbest11@yahoo.com small

Edie 2011-01-02 14:01:15 -0600 Report

Donna I have alot of exercise tapes too I gave them to my oldest girl and I only kept the 2 exercise DVD's I had as my VCR died. LOL When I get up in the morning I used to walk around the Trailer Park we live in Starting tomorrow I am back to it. When I get the whole thing walked once it is 1 mile. At relief Society we were walking last year and they said every 15 mins is 1/2 mile, so if we walk 1 mile in a half hour we are doing good Mine is more like 1/2 mile an hour as I start to have trouble walking. I don't think it matters if we are type 1 or 2 Diabetes as long as we just get moving. Every step and every move we make will help us to gain our goals. So lets try using a Calendar graft this next year and follow our steps and exercises at the end of every other week step on the scale and see where we are. I am going to post A New Discussion for Jan. Hope to see you all there too.

It's not really a guide. What we have done in the past is just share our numbers during the day and what we ate and what we did for exercise. Edie listed a new one for each month and we would come in to fill it in on a daily basis. It is good accountability for everyone and it's a good habit to get into at the start of the new year. Go for it Edie!! By the way, good to see you again!!

Edie 2010-12-29 21:26:28 -0600 Report

Hello MewElla, fgphillips, and Gabby; I have been a bad girl by not staying up on this site as I once did. Starting on Jan. 1st I am going to be on daily and posting as I once did before going to bed. I will also put on here things I have found out that may help us all.

With Bill Retireing last year in November our Insurance from his job stopped on July 31st this year and I found out if I yelled loud enough I could get my pills back and ditch the insulin. My numbers were coming down till this cold got a hold of me thanks to disrespective kids. Ann kept opening the window wide on the return trip from Disney World on Sunday and Monday and I got a real bad head cold. Am doing everything to get rid of it.

I did lose some more weight while in Florida this past week all of the walking we did. LOL In November I had a picture of me taken and wrote down the weight on it. It was taken on 11/26 and I weighted 250 pounds When I weighted myself this morning I weight in at 246.8 pounds.

I don't know how much walking I did but it sure was alot. I had my sister Sue with us and her and I was on our own alot so we didn't have to push ourselves to keep up with everyone else.

On my daily posts if you see me doing something you think is wrong let me know and if I get mad so what you are here to help me and me to help you. I have posted my picture from November of 2010 and my Last High School Picture on my Freezer so as to have the motivation I need to get where I want to be. In Sept. 1975 I weighted 150 pounds and am going to get there again if I can.

I look forward to starting these posts again in the New Year; Happy Holidays everyone. Hope alot of you will join us here next Month to start a New Year and lets lose alot of weight together. I've gotten alot of information I will start shareing with all in January. If you want the information sent to you please send me a private email through the inbox here and I will get it out to you. I am also going to see if I can copy it to this post if you don't want to share your email with me. I will scan everything into the computer and then drag it on here for you.

Thanks for information. My problem is that I have become pear-shape and loathe looking at myself. I want to be determined to lose wieght by June as I will be taking a cruise from which I usually return with gains. My diabetes is in good control. During the day, no problems. I eat from dinnertime on, afraid to go low during the night so I always have a "bedtime" snack with the wrong food as I am in bed then and sleep which has put the weight on me. Need to stop! Am wanting to call my diabetic doctor to see if there's a med I can take to lose weight and not interfere with the 2 insulins I take. Advice anyone?
