I went on line worried about the new girl who posted I Had a Drink, and I wanted to find out more about it, and while I found this news article, I also found that you can get a diabetic newsletter sent to your email address. It's a good site, with all kinds of interesting news.

I only drink at my work christmas party. So are you saying I can't drink at all? It's the only time my husband and I get away from the kids. Its hard to get away with our work scheudles so I like to have a really good time. I drink a few and dance and party till about midnight. I'm new at this diabetes thing so I don't have all the answers yet for what I can and can't eat or drink. I thought that the low carb beer would be fine, but maybe I was wrong. Anyway I plan on talking to my Dr. about it before the party comes around this winter.

Many, many people with diabetes drink. I know some diabetics who drink every day, some who drink a few a week, some who drink every now and again and some who drink at special occasions. You have to be a little careful with things like medication reactions, low blood sugar and carb content of the drink. Generally speaking, as long as you are sensible and you have no other issues with alcohol then you should be fine.

I was one that thought drinking was not allowed once I was diagnosed. But I asked my Doctor about the red wine and I have been doing it and it must be working because I am getting good numbers in the morning. I went to the doctor today and he said keep it up as long as it is working. And I am on insulin which usually alcohol os off limits. I am also doing the cinnamon and the vinegar thing too. So after 15 years of high numbers it is all starting to come together. My goal is to be off of insulin in 6 months. I am so close and my docotr says with a little more control, I can do it.

There are several posts about it but I have been using the grinder cinnamon in my coffee and in my oatmeal every day. and the vinegar is 1 tablespoon before breakfast and dinner and what ever they do it is working. But please read the posts about it and make your own informed decision. Good luck.

Web MD's article is very good. Gives us wonderful guidlines. Yes, over doing it is a qeustionable thing, even when you're not diabetic. I believe exessive alcahol is part of what triggerd my brother's Type 2 in his young years.

Be careful, but don't be afraid. The best thing is knowledge of how it affects you and your levels. Just like any other food we take in. Then you don't have a question about it.

I say that so when you are out with friends and you want to be a part of what is happening, if you KNOW how much and what, then you can join in or abstain. The thing is knowing so you don't mess up. Because drinking is really easy to mess up in.

I drink 4oz of red wine with my dinner each night. I use it to stabelize my nitetime numbers and it works well for me. This is the most I have ever drank in my life. I was never into more than a drink a couple of times a year. Though I have given up my drink of choice, it is sweet and very high carb, so my white russians are a thing of the past. But I really don't mind.

Gabby,
My drink of choice before was margaritas. But I too am doing the red wine and having good results. My Dr is of the opinion if it works try it. Next I am going to try the vinegar,

The vinegar works well for my mom, and she drinks it at every meal. I drink it too in a couple of things, but it doesn't do as much for me. But we are all so differnt...now if they could find a way that eating chocolate would make my numbers low...LOL

There are some diabetics that swear by eating a square of dark chocalate everday works for tham. But my problem is I cannot stop at the one square so I just do not eat any.

I could not tolerate beer or hard liquor before diagnosis. I do not think of it now. I know my body does not tolerate the ingredients. I would never try it now.

It was me that posted that discussion. I did have 1 beer the other night. It was a Miller Genuine with only 2.4 carbs in it. Do not plan on having another one anytime soon. I am not normally a beer drinker, well a drinker at all I should say. It was more like a rebelion thing!!

I do appreciate your concern though!!!

Vicki
