Today, member em_calvo06 shared her morning affirmation with us in a discussion. Her affirmation inspired me to put it on my bathroom mirror where I can see it several times a day. What she shared was: "You will do at least one thing today that will give your diabetes a kick in the butt! And that will put a smile on your face" I just loved it.

Who on the site or in your life inspires you to fight one more day? Who gives you that nudge and how have you changed your life because of what they have shared either directly with your or just in a simple comment made?

My family. Without their faith and their hope I would have given up on my life a year ago. When I was in a coma and had a 30 percent chance of living. They stayed by me, whispered words I may have heard and don't remember. They tell me everyday how strong I am, but I couldn't be half as strong as I am without them.

My amazing boyfriend, who was an amazing friend for almost a year before I saw what was right in front of me. He loves me, despite my physical and emotional scars. He tells me I'm beautiful when I feel like there's nothing worth being beautiful for. And he makes me smile when all I want to do is cry.

And oddly enough, my diabetes. Type 2 or death were the choices I was faced with. And I'd rather give myself insulin and watch what I eat for the rest of my life if it meant I had a life to live. Having diabetes is truly a blessing in disguise. Yes, it's a disease that I have to monitor on a daily basis and it does interrupt my life at times, but it also made me healthier than I have ever been before, more active and I discovered that I love to cook and try new recipes.

I don't have many people in my life that truly understand what being diabetic means, which is why I joined this site. In hopes of making new friends who truly understand what I'm going through and can help get my through my hardest days.

My father, who has fought T2 for thirty something years (I guess its getting closer to 40 years), Mays is always inspirational, Ray for wit and wisdom combined, Gabby for fighting for the underdog, kdroberts for always speaking the truth (I always hear "just the facts, m'am" in my head), Dr. Gary for his compassion … I could go on and on, we all have our moments. That's why I spend so much time on this site. I also have a couple of dear friends in "real life" that hold me up when I get tired.

My mom is a great inspiration to me, too. She keeps such good control on her diabetes and we work together to eat right and do the best we can. She hears all my frustrations and is first to hear my victories. She is great!

I personally have been inspired by many many people here on dc. A few people came to mind like the doctor and mays! They always have such pearls of wisdom to share and have turned my attitude around into a positive attitude about diabetes! Id like to thank them for that!

Ray is one of the best! I love his sense of humor and you know you will always get a well researched answer from him. He reads so much. I don't know how he keeps it all straight.

That is so encouraging to hear. It always amazes me that the smallest encouragement from some one can turn a life around. This is great!
