You know with all this worry and weight we carry around everyday, to do the right thing in helping ourselves. Sometimes we have to remember that we are more than diabetes. We are human beings with loves and interests, and we deserve to indulge in our special needs once in a while. Well, I love to shop, and since spending money is really not the greatest way to spend your time, I went to our local book shop and managed to find some great diabetic (betty crocker) cookbooks, and some crime books that I love to read in a soaking hot bubble bath, which I think I will spoil myself while reading my book tomorrow. And guess what, it was a dollar a bag day, so I went out, bought all the books I wanted and even a couple of pairs of jean bib overalls (I am a sucker for overalls, love them)
and had a great time doing it. Do not feel one bit guilty about spending that dollar, either, LOL
See what doing something for yourself can do to your mood. Go ahead, every now and again, you deserve and Please, don't lose yourself to diabetes, be yourself, try to find the time to enjoy a little part of everyday, and feel good that you did, like I feel right now. And I feel better about facing another day with diabetes. :-) lilmarm52

You know this was the first discussion I was going to open this morning; I was so happy that I finally completed a project that I actually thought about this post. Any,way it is a couple hours later now, and because of a big mess in my kitchen because I did not put the clean coffee pot on the already prepared morning coffee that automatically timed to start for today. Needless today, all good thoughts that I woke up with were gone.
Now restored; I want to see that I completed a project of an 3 and a half foot fibreoptic angel that had gotten completely damaged when stored for the year, so, I actually threw her in a garbage bag and decided to throw her out; then yesterday morning I picked up the bag; which only had the angel in at that time. I took her out; stripped her of all her clothes and hair; down to an empty slate, with lots of visions, material, needle and thread, craft supplies, and a glue gun I was determined to put her back together. Angels are very important to me. My mom died in 1995 on Thanksgiving, I began collecting them in honor of her. She was one I had gotten for her. And as if by "magic" she was reformed and beautiful and completely different, as if someone was guiding me and helping me to make this absolutely beautiful transition. I can not explain this feeling or why, or how I even did it from a wheel chair in extreme pain, except maybe that the angel had something to do with it, being the holidays of hard times and all. Anyway; IT FELT GREAT Claudia

So, today; I got up, with pain, lots of it; but I got up. Have to get my husband off to work, with lunch and coffee in hand, reminder to take meds. and make sure he has not forgot anything, which I do because I love to take care of him, not because I have to.

And since then I tried to help people deal with problems related to depression of the coming season by adding a site they can look at for easy and inexpensive to make gifts. I know I made them. I can tell you how. And it makes you feel so good to handmake your gift and takes away the guilt of not being able to buy something more gift worthy, cause it comes from the heart. So I did a lot today.

I always go to the used clothing store and the library to buy used books. I pay ususally about 50 cents per book sometimes a dollar. It drives my husband crazy because I have tons of books but at least it is an inexpensive addiction and my children are picking up on it too.

I am going to try to go to the thrift shop today to shop for Christmas; so many people donate brand new things, still in the box, and you can pick them up for so little, it is unbelievable. Same with clothes, purses, toys, kitchen items. Anything you can find in a department store. It is a great way to get so many presents for less than $20.00; You should look into it in your county or town. It makes shopping much more fun when you know you can afford it.

It is so good that people are feeling good about doing something for themselves; I am happy I made this post, cause it is motivating, And I did something today that really made me feel good today; I loaded 4 big bags, of practically new clothes that I did not use, and brought them to the salvation army dropoff. Now I know someone will get them and they will be used. That is why I made that post earlier. It is about giving.

I always get up and dressed no matter how bad I feel. I knit preemie hats and that makes me feel good. Sometimes I go to the local Dollar Tree and buy something I don't need…I just want.

Today, I want to try to make something for a Christmas gift, if my hands will work with me. Or maybe color my hair. That will be a real treat.

I washed my hair and got out for a half hour; hurray. I did something for myself today.

This was a post that really needed to be posted because people do lose themselves to things and situations and don't spend enough time enjoying life. I love the simple things in life and it don't take much to please me nor to make me smile. I love scented oils and candles and when ever I go out to buy my food or just go to the local Wal-Mart to look around I always end with yet another oil buner or liquid candel buner and scented oils. I love to burn them to relax and it adds a pleasant spirit around the house. And I want talk about the craft things I buy…LOL. But I feel you are correct in saying that people need to stop and realize that sometimes life isn't all about the things that are associated with diabetes but it's about living and enjoying the life that you have. And allowing others to show you that same love in return. We sometimes spend to much time locked in a place of the present things we see and past things that seem hold on to our lives. I say let go and enjoy life before life has ended and you never know how wonderful it could have been.

Live life and enjoy…Hugs and Kisses

I agree with that idea 100%.We owe it to our selves to pamper every once in a while . Everybody needs it womwn and men. But for a woman it is a should do thing. We often put others,( husbands, children and friends) before ourselves.
You have definitely got the right idea.
I want to be in your club. LOL

butterefly 8, I have a question for you.Are you as happy as your picture looks?? You are not worrying about anything !!That smile is lifting.

2008-09-29 12:00:44 -0500 Report

She is so right; if you do have worries, and I am sure you do, as we all do, but it looks like you try very hard not to get you down. And at the same time, you boost anyone who sees your picture way up; just with that pleasant smile (and attitude)

I so agree with you. When I went into DKA it took me three days of throwing up and lethargic to finally go into the ER, I was too busy trying to still take care of my family. My doctor looked at my husband the day of my release from the hospital and told him that I have to have some "me" time!!! It's amazing how much stress can affect my numbers@!!!!!

I love this post. You are so right. I think sometimes we are lost in diets, do this, don't do that....it does drain us.

I have found a good comedy is a great remedy. I had a girls day out with a friend and we saw Momma Mia! We laughed our butts off.

My husband and I visit the local flea market and browse sometimes. I enjoy petting all the puppies.

I love photography and writing, and poetry is always a wonderful escape whether you read it or write it. I will actually be published this year in a real book, not just in an on line magazine. How cool is that?

That was a great reminder, I do have a life that is part of what I do now, but also in a different lifetime. Good to remember, and even better to revisit.

Gabby, coming out with a book??? Fantastic !!
Hey you guys, we have somebody smart in
our organization. go girl !

GabbyPA 2008-09-28 13:13:38 -0500 Report

LMAO! No, not that smart. It is an anthology of collected pieces about Christams in Florida. I had a story online in the mag I used to write for, and the publisher wanted to use it. Kind of cool. It is supposed to come out this year. I'll let you know, but I imagine it will just be here in Florida. Book a Million is supposed to be carring it. We will see.

Hey, the book idea is great. I did that and was published, too. A self help book that has never been done before. I wrote it and illustrated it through PTSS and it turned out amazing, but I swear the drawings are so fantastic, I really felt someone was guiding my hands. I saw the pictures before they were on paper. And now, they have been sold to hospital incoming mental health workers, as a part of their schooling. Also used in Women's Crisis" centers and other various self help locations. And the rest have sold out, and I do not have the money or backing right now to do a second printing. I will post a drawing and a write up in the news paper so you can see it, under my photos. Oh, also have to do speaking engagements; usually fall when school starts, and every term in the year.

2008-09-29 11:56:09 -0500 Report

Sorry; I tried to download the pictures to my site but I have to send file over from my main computer; lately, I have been on my laptop; because I am still bedridden.

2008-09-29 11:57:59 -0500 Report

And my book is a self help book "The Use of Abuse Workbook"; but yours sounds a lot better. Grats to U. Love Your Friend; Claudia
