I can really relate to your feelings. I was also a late bloomer of type 1 at 45yo. in 2005. I've gone from needles and vials to pens and now I have a mini-med pump. If the pump is offered ($6000.00) at a good price TAKE IT. I went from 5-6 shots a day to 1 infusion site stick every 3 days. I hope that you have a really good diabetic Dr. as well as a good family one. Just deal with with this as a challange and it will be alot easier. Good luck!!

That is very unusual to get type 1 so late in life. You are in a good place here and there are many people who can help you through the rough spots. Are you sure it is type 1 and not type 2 on insulin? I am curious about what made it happen so late in life. Did your doctor tell you any reason for that?

Welcome to our website (aka community aka family). We are all quite familiar with the experiences that you have, are and will be going through. You will find some answers but you'll also find a lot of amazing friendships with diabetics of all types, ages, genders, etc. Please look around and if you need help, ASK. I am proud to be a member of this site. If there's anything that I can do or say, please "friend" me and let me know how I can be of service. So many members here have guided me from this bewildered diabetic newbie to realizing that none of us have all of the answers but that we all share a true sense of kindness and understanding. Count us in and count on us!!! :)
