Greetings and welcome to our website. It's great that you are taking the initiative to learn about diabetes and yourself in the process. It would be great to read one article or book and know everything there is to know but there's no one size fits all approach to management. What works for one person won't work for another. The keys that I have found include eating the right things in the right quantities at the right times, exercise, medication as prescribed and learning by living. You have an incredible support system here and that's not only about diabetes but about life. Feel free to ask as many questions as necessary because soon you will be answering us from your successes and failures. The best word in our domain name is "connect." Welcome!!!

I am not a physician but I just wanted to offer you some support and to encourage you to continue to work really closely with your doctor to get your treatment in place and keep in on track. As Richard suggested, its also important to get educated so that you can make sure you have the best diet possible to keep you feelng as good as possible. Your body gave you a wake-up call. Now, it's up to you! Take care of yourself! Keep us posted!

Hello halinaa, welcome! Are you using carb counting to determine your dosages of fast acting insulin before meals and snacks? I need 1 unit for every 6 carbs I eat. that is called a 1:6 ratio. You might need a 1:10 or a 1:15 ratio, do you know your ratio? If you are not familiar with this you could see a CDE (Certified Diabetes Educator) to get help. You could also buy the book "Using Insulin" by John Walsh. I bought my copy from

Carb counting helped me very much. I have been type 1 for 65 years and I am very healthy. If you have some questions, please ask them. We want to help!
