My daughter's sugar levels have been crazy for the past week. She had her wisdom teeth out on Wednesday and to top it off she has a stopped up nose and sore throat. She sugar was 250 then checked two hours later and it was 252 then checked an hour later and it was 206. WE did a correction every 2 hours. When she got up it was 107. Most of the day it has ran over 200. What the heck it going on? Do I give her more insulin when she is sick. I've called both of her diabetic doctors and they have not returned my calls. This is her first time being sick since being diagnosed with diabetes. Thanksgiving it reached 300. I'm so freaked out!

She is doing better now. Her doctor finally called and said to give her more insulin until she is better. Thanks again for your help!

Hi, I am new here and seen your post. My daughter is type 1 diabetic as well, Make sure you are checking her ketones. If she is showing ketones in her urine you should call your dr. asap. especially if they are moderate to high. Anytime your child is sick..pain, flu, cold anything..just keep a close eye on the ketones and test often. Have her drink lots of clear fluids to flush them out. Water is a natural way to lower bs levels as well. Sometimes my daughter will test at 280 and drink a bottle of water and 1/2 hour later come down to 160. Just make sure she understands that water is her best friend at this point and she will be surprised at how much of an effect will have on her numbers. Try these things, continue to get ahold of the dr, and dont freak out! lol. Everything will be okay, but if you havent checked the ketones or you dont have any strips for it They sell them at every drugstore over the counter. About 9.00. Hope it helps. Kim

Pain will effect ones sugar levels also stress! Id follow her treatment plan and use her insulin as necessary. She will continue to flucuate while under stress and pain and eventually go back to where she was once the stress and pain goes away. I've leared that yes pain and stress effect the blood sugar greatly. Good luck to you and your daughter. Just keep watching the bs and I'm sure it will go back to normal as she heals.
