Basically the sugar in our blood causes damage to the smaller blood vessels and nerves in our bodies and can cause them to bleed and not function properly. My dad had it and what happened was that one eye filled with blood from leaking capillaries. With some laser treatments he was able to regain some of his vision in that eye over time. He never felt comfortable driving again though, so mom drove.
