For me, it's a combination of carbs and alcohol types. I can drink PBR's all night and stay pretty much right on as long as I pay attention to the carbs…but I have to stay away from red wine bc it will almost always make my sugars drop low. The biggest thing though is not how it makes you high or low…the biggest thing is that if you are wasted you won't be able to properly handle yourself when you get low. Like when you get low and you are asleep- the depressant effects of alcohol can keep your body from waking you up. Other than maybe feeling bad for a day, there is nothing wrong with keeping your sugars deliberately high when you are drinking…especially when you are going to sleep. You can always take a correction bolus in the morning when you are sober…but waking up with sugars of 25 and trying to function without alcohol is hard enough…you don't want to have to do it when you have something in you making it even harder to think! : )

It rather depends on what kind of alcohol you're wanting to drink and how much. Something that has a mixer with it, may raise your BG#s very high. Some PWDs can drink something like a beer, but others (like Harlen) can't.

The only way you can know what works for you, is using your meter to tell you what it good for you. First take your BG so you have a reference. Then drink 1 drink of the alcohol you want to test, wait 2 hrs and test BG again, so you know how that type of alcohol affects you. It might be good if it's something like a beer, you might want to test different brands, or different styles of the same brand.

Enjoy your holidays

Blessings to you and yours

Yeah, go ahead and drink but make sure you have your meter with you to check it like every hour or two.. Also have a snack while drinking because alchohol lowers blood sugar.. That used to mess me up because I'd have some sugary drink or one with fruit juice and figure that it would hellp since I knew my blood sugar would drop, so the fruit would bring it up.. Well it didn't help that much.. Now when I do drink (occasionally), I always have my meter and have something to eat with it.. You'd be suprised how your sugar can driop suddenly from alchohol…
