Hi there. I am not in a wheelchair, but I do have severe degenerative joint disease in my lower back. Try looking at Chairacise.com. Look at the denmos. I got enough information from the demos to figure out some excercises that work well for me and did'thave to purchase the videos. Let me know how you do and what else you find. I'm always looking for new excercises!! Good Luck.

There are a lot of ways to exercise while seated. Check your local library for tapes and DVDs. I also have a VQ action chair which gives you an entire body work out while seated.

Weight loss can be achieved from a combination of diet and exercise. While you may not be able to do certain exercises, you may want to consider water aerobics if you are able. Our local YMCA is a reasonable price and has a heated pool for year-round usage. Some of your weight loss can be obtained by decreasing your caloric intake while ANY exercise is better than no exercise. If you are able to do dumbbell lifting for your arms, that's something. If you can lift your legs, they have weights that can attach to the ankles. Depending on your mobility, you may or may not be able to so some light stretching. It is a matter of focusing on what you can do rather than what you cannot do. You should consult with your physician for a more personalized answer. You may also wish to conduct a search on google.com for practical wheelchair exercises.
