Hi everyone. My name is Julie. I stumbled onto this site when I was looking for low carb receipes. Is it ok to be on this site even though I don't have diabetes? My sister was recently diagnosed. I'm gonna tell her about this site. It looks like a great site for lots of information. Thank you very much.

Hi Julie, And kudos to you for researching to understand your sister's diabetes. There are so many diabetics that say they have no support or understanding from their family members, and these are the very people we break bread with most often.
It's certainly okay to be on this site to gain understanding and ask questions and get information and recipes. Diabetics vary widely on their treatments and you'll see a bit of everything here.
I hope your sister checks out DC as well, for one thing its an excellent support system pretty much available whenver you want to talk to someone. There are lots of very smart, caring people on this site.
And as Ray said, if you have family history of diabetes, the best way to keep it at arms length is to eat lower carb, control any existing risk factors, and work some exercise into your routine, if you don't already. Living this way is healthy for lots of reasons, not just diabetes.

Hi Julie! Welcome to the site. Whether diabetic or not, the low carb diet can help you and your whole family and most especially if your family has a history of diabetes. The sooner you all address the issues of weight, carbs, calories, exercise and other concerns of diabetics, the better for everyone. There are a number of low carb recipes here and on other sites throughout the internet: www.dlife.com, www.diabeticlivingonline.com and one called spark something that I found. Mainly a little tweaking to your existing recipes can make them more carb friendly. We would also welcome that you and your sister contribute recipes to us as well as you find tried and true favorites. We are here to care and share! Thanks for joining us. There's so much information in product reviews, book reviews and other areas of our site. Keep the "connect" word in our website in mind and stay connected with us. Welcome to our family-community-world!!!
