Hi everyone. I have had type 2 for a little over a year. At first I had the county insurance and went to the classes and it was under control. Then my husband got SSI and our income went up to $15 over the limit for county insurance. He is a vet and has been trying to get me on at the VA, but they move slower than snail snot. So, for the last two months, no pills and I ran out of test strips. Now, my feet are tingling and I am scared.

I am uninsured and found a clinic in my town that goes on a sliding scale for payment. It has been a life saver. I called my local hospital and asked for "free" programs and they gave me this clinic. I don't qualify for free, but I get a reduced price. My labs are $5 and my doctor visits are $10. This might help to bridge the gap until you can get onto the VA.

We had issues getting my wife on disability with the government and that was an ordeal so I can relate to what you are going through. We contacted our state (Ohio) representative who got a move on for us and there was a court date before you know it. I don't know if such a contact will help with your VA insurance need but it's worth a call or click to the website. A google search should be able to put you in touch with the right person or department. Good luck. I know (experience) what you're going through and sympathize. And… welcome to our website!!!
