Friday before last my Husband and I got up in the morning, and about an hour later Mike said that his left ear was ringing. It continued into the afternoon so he called the Dr. and she told him if it didn't stop for him to go to the E.R. or to go in and see her on Monday morning.
Well the ringing stopped and he had alot of pressure in his left ear so he thought that he had a Sinus Infection with fluid on his ear, which is what I also figured.
So on Tuesday he went to the Dr. and she found no fluids on his ear or Sinus Infection, so she sent him to a Ear,Nose,& Throat Specialist he check him out and did a hearing test. In which he failed the test on his left ear, He found out that he had caught a virus somewhere and it attacked his Inner Ear, and left him Totally Deaf in the left ear.
Mike is so besides himself, and I just wish I could do something for him, but know that all I can do is be here for him. Now if he gets a twinge in his other ear, he thinks the worst. He goes back to the ENT on Friday.
Just wanted to let you know about a different type of virus is out there to be causious about.

Sorry to find this out.
Stay close, let your love and warmth comfort him.
You both have a great deal to be thankful for, a severe viral infection can cause a great deal of damage to the brain (I won't go any further).

I am so sorry, I've never heard of that kind of a virus. Your family has had more than your share lately. I'm keeping you in my prayers.

Will he be able to have a hearing aid? Or did the virus destroy something that cant be replaced by anything manmade?

A hearing aid won't do anything, he's totally lost all of his hearing in his left ear Dr. says it's permant.

Not sure yet running more test, this next week. Also going to have a CT Scan on his Brain to make sure there is no tumor that would be affecting it. Will let everyone know when we get test results back.

It is stressful waiting for tests and then for the results. Hope you get the results soon and it is good news. I am sorry you are having to face a tumor scare so soon and sudden again.
I asked about nerves being involved because I had West Nile Virus (WNV) attack my optic nerves. WNV rampaged around in my brain attacking nerves. One morning I woke up and could not read. This lasted for around 2 years. Then I morning I could read again. As strange as this sounds, I know others this happened to as well. Some people have been left totally blind after WNV hit them. Some have regained their sight, some haven't so far. For the most part, Drs. don't know why WNV does what it does.

Thanks Harlen, it seems like when it rains it pours. The ENT tried last week by giving him an injection in the ear drum of Steroids, Mike said it was the worst pain he ever felt even with the numbing, but it was unsuccessful, unfortantally. But at least the Specialist tried.
I'm trying to remember to speak a little louder, and to look at him when I speak.
