I won!!! I have safely returned home sans cake.
My poor sister still has 16 out of 24 wedding cupcakes she took back to her freezer. Another sister acquired 1/2 of a jumbo box of miniature cream puffs from Costco or Sam's Club. The third sister took custody of the leftover fondue from the chocolate fountain.
It wasn't an easy victory.
When Wedding Cupcake Sister saw the anniversary cake she called for it's removal from the party. But Chocolate Fountain Sister defended my right to have it there. She insisted that with 40 guests we needed more dessert. I had played on her sympathes earlier. She remembered the year The Cake Lady had given her, her husband and their three daughters 5 seperate full size cakes for Valentine's Day, while they were all living in the same house.
When guests arrived I very carefully played the crowd. The wedding cupcakes did not have The Cupcake Lady's frosting on them. A friend of the bride had iced and decorated the cupcakes. At the wedding several guests had told The Cupcake Lady they liked her frosting better. Eleven of them were at the birthday party. I had a double chance of getting them to choose the cake. "The cake has Mom's good frosting on it and poor me I can't eat it since I have diabetes." It worked - they all ignored the inferior cupcakes. A few asked for a piece to eat later at home. No one complained when their piece was enough for two or three servings. My husband even finally got to eat some of our anniverary cake. And I ate two miniature cream puffs.
Unfortunately I have not made much progress on my plan to get rid of the expected December 3rd Birthday Cake. My Lemon Cake Nephew was not able to come to the party. He was at work. Good news, I learned his brother's favorite cake is spice. Bad news, Spice Cake Nephew lives 75 miles away and will not be in town when the cake should be here.
I wonder if their mother, Wedding Cupcake Sister would notice a cake in her freezer? She will be leaving on Thursday to go to her other home in Kazakhstan and will not be back until Spring…if Chocolate Fountain Sister and/or Cream Puff Sister will help me get into her house…
