Yeah!!! Went to Walgreens this morning. They are offering free (YES FREE!!!) A1C tests at some of their stores today and tomorrow from 10 am to 6 pm.
Mine is 5.3. Took just a few minutes mostly waiting because there were 3-4 people ahead of me. Then the finger stick and in 5 minutes the result.
They also did my BG 133 which was high for me because I had not been able to resist the Carls Jr biscuits and Gravy while I was waiting to go to Walgreens. I ate the many carbs about 1 and 1/2 hrs before the test. I don't drive and the nearest Walgreens that was offering the test was on my husband's route to work. I was so happy and needed the exercise I walked the 3.3 miles home. By the time I got home my BG was 99.

Thanks for posting this. I saw it this morning and went down my my Walgreens and did my A1c. It was a whopping 9.4 so I was bummed. However I know that it is not to bad because I have only been on meds for about 5 weeks. My BG was 400+ when I first got my blood work at the lab. Which IF that was an average for me that would have put my A1c at over 12. So I think it just shows that I am on the right track. I am kinda happy with that.

Thanks everyone, I've been trying hard to watch what carbs affect my BG. The good advice shared here at DC, about how to test 1 to 2 hours after eating has been very helpful. I've learned so much here from you all.

I live in CO. Go to then enter your town and state and check FREE Diabetes Health Test. They will tell you where you can get the test done. They are doing it again on Saturday 11/14/10 from 10 am to 6 pm. I checked and there are several Chicago locations listed.

Thank you. It is so nice to share good news with people who can appreciate what it means. No one in my family really understands diabetes. None of them has this disease, and I hope and pray they never have to understand by first hand experience either. (Not that I want anyone here at DC or anywhere else to have it either.)
