Has anybody ever gotten extreme burning in back that goes around to chest and bilateral shoulders? Burning also goes into bilateral hands and arms, worse if i move head. Taken 600 mg of Lyrica, 1250 mg of Tylenol, 500 mg of Naproxen, and Excedrin Tension. Pain is so bad it is making me sick at my stomach. I have been walking funny too. BS is 296.

You said "it has to ease up sometime." If this is from a spinal injury or herniated disc, PLEASE be aware that it does NOT have to ease up ! You have to fix it or get it fixed!!
I had a herniated disc in L-4/L-5 Lumbar area . Horrible pain, Burning down my legs, and a feeling like a chain of razor blades was being pulled up and down theough my leg! I really DO know what you are going through!! Doctors were talking about putting me in the hospital for 6 Months and cutting out part of my spine!! NO WAY!!! Here is what I did.
1. I went to a licensed Doctor of Chiropracty, who did X-rays to confirm that I did indeed have a herniated disc. Then he explained it to me in this way-"The disc is like a
sandwich sitting on a table. The meat in the middle has slipped a little and is now poking out past the bread. That "Meat" are nerves from inside the spine. Now the Bread has clamped down on those nerves which is what is causing the horrible pain and burning. You need to get the "Meat" back inside the sandwich!"
2. Pain killers can be your friend, but they do not CURE anything. Go to a healthfood store or on the internet and look for Valerian Root capsules. Valerian is the natural herb that Valium is made from. But it has not been processed. Therefore it is not a dangerous drug. What it will do is to relax the muscles which are clamping down on that sandwich. This will relieve a LOT of the pain, PLUS it makes the fixing part easier!
3. Pull the nerves back into the spine with semi-pushups , you do this by bending backwards at the waist. I was in such bad shape that the doctor suggested I lay on my tummy on the floor and push with my hands and arms until my back was arching backwards. I was to hold this position for 10 seconds, then relax.Try to do 5 or even 10 repetitions of this every hour. This backward arching will pull those nerves back in, but it takes a long time. we are looking at several weeks at bets, and possibly a few months. The good part is that you will be able to feel it as you make progress. The pain of the semi-pushups will start to decrease, which means the nerves have pulled back partially in that area. As you find the pain of the pushups subsiding, push yourself up higher with your arms. When you get to the place that you can push yourself to full extension of your arms while your legs are still flat on the floor, then its time for the second phase.
4. Now stand in front of a wall with your feet about 18 inches from the wall and 18 inches apart. Place your hands flat on the wall and then flex your hips forward while keeping your arms out straight. Flex in as far as you can and hold for 10 seconds.Do several repetititions at one hour intervals. As you make progress you will be able to flex farther and farther forward. As you do the pushups or flexing you may feel a pulling in your legs or back. This shows that you are doing the right thing!

I was able to totally repair the damage by myself. I will admit that the Valerian made all the difference in the world! It worked so well that I would have geven them$100 a bottle. Luckily it was not nearly that expensive. You might check online for Swansons Vitamines. They have the lowest prices I have ever seen!!
Please be aware that if you don't really have a herniated disc, or if its not low in the Lumbar area, this procedure may not help you. Going to a licensed Doctor of Chyropracty will tell you for sure. Also a Neurologist will be able to tell you if you have Neuropathy!!
Good luck

Please run don't walk to a neurologist and get tested! Also call a pharmacy, and NOT the one that you go to for your meds. Tell them the meds your own and the dosage amounts and see if any of them mixed could be causing a problem. Keep up updated on what happens, PLEASE!!!!!

Hello If what your talking about is similar to what I had which it sounds like it is, I had to get tested by a neurologist. Im a 20 year old type one diabetic and the doctor had to conduct some painful test, in order to test for nerve damage turns out I had a severe case of carpel tunnel. But I'm not a doctor so I suggest looking into it. Good luck!

Hey James. I have not been able to get into the dr yet due to finances. It is better but still believes it is a pinched nerve because if i bend over to try to pick something up it reproduces the severe burning into my arm and hand. I do have a herniated disc at L4-5 I know and know that I have the diabetic neuropathy, found that out when I broke both ankles 2 years ago. The vicoprofen has helped a little. I also have been diagnosed by bone density scan to have both osteopenia and osteoarthritis so that may be contributing to.

hi godkids831, I can feel your pain and frustrations. I am going through almost the same exact thing as you, I have the extreme back pain in my upper back around to my shoulders. Burning pain in my thighs. My blood sugar is constanly high 250to almost 430's or more at times. The pain is so bad that I take excessive amt of Tramadol and Ibuprofin three times a day. I take Gabapentin 300mg 3x a day for nerve pain and prednisone. Have you been diagnosed with RA,or fibromyalgia. I know how it is when you go to the ER and they don't do anything.
You might need to go see a rheumatologist. Your upset stomach might be from taking all the meds. I have acid refluxe and ulcer so I am taking protonix 2 times a day for that. Good luck when you go to the Dr. on Monday.

Hope you are doing somewhat better. Remember that pain and stress will also cause your BS to go up…as well as many medications. Are your doctors aware of the OTC meds you take? Do you have a university/hospital? They cannot send you away if you are in distress. As others have said, have them check for heart problems but, also, they should x-ray your back. Pinched nerves in your back will give same symptoms. Good luck! Keeping you in my prayers.

Another thing to consider is pain like that could be related to cardiac symptoms. Of course, being a heart attack survivor myself (barely), I tend to be a 'bug' about it but it's something to consider. Please see a doctor as soon as you possibly can and be very careful until then.

Since I drove myself they wouldn't give me anything. they did no x-rays or labs or anything. Sort of upset me cause I told them what my BS was. Just checked it and it has gone up to 317. Fixing to take a little more insulin.

Cautious administration of insulin is the proper way to handle the high blood sugar. It all depends on the type of insulin you use and your insulin sensitivity. I hope your health care professional gave you some guidelines to use in the event of a high sugar. If possible, also check your urine for ketones. They can be a problem when your sugar gets out of control. As far as the BG, I find it best not to try knocking it all down to 'normal' at one time. Do it in small steps to avoid 'overshooting' and finding yourself hypoglycemic. I wish you the best of luck and I wish I were there to help you.

Thanks. I am very cautious about my insulins because when I first started taking 3, i was at work and my BS was 500 and then after I took my insulin it dropped to 38. I passed out and broke both ankles. My sugars fluctuate a lot due to prednisone usage. wished the pain would ease up. took the prescriptions to pharmacy from ER but can't afford them.

Elrond
Elrond 2010-11-06 02:31:51 -0500 Report

You're right; prednisone has a bad habit of playing games with your blood sugar. It might be a good idea to carefully bring your sugar down with several small injections and wait long enough after each one for it to take effect. After that, test then repeat the process. It's long and tedious but the safest way to do it. It may also be wise to settle for a slightly high sugar until you get everything else settled. A sugar in the high 100's won't hurt you for a short time and it sure beats dropping into the 30's. (When I get that low, I can't even remember how to operate my meter) Above all else, be very careful. We'll all be thinking about you and praying for you.

Howdy Kelli

WELCOME to DC!

Has a Dr seen you for this problem? This sounds like something which needs to be seen by a medical professional.

What you are experiencing sounds really painful.

Not that I want you to leave us, but are you aware of a sister site back pain connect? You can use your DC login information to log in there. You can find it easily by looking at the black band on the top of this page where it says "visit another community". In the drop down click on the community you wish to visit and log in using your DC login email and password.

I've been there a time or two because of minor back problems. They might be more helpful than I can be. I pray they can help you.

The high BG#s are most likely due to your pain level.

My bride Jem was also diabetic ("DM") She had a lot of what we called "medical challenges" (as do I). One of those challenges was RA, another was Lupis (SLE). Both caused her pain when they'd flare up. Her BG#s would go through the roof.

Often she'd take prednisone or get a cortisone shot which would shoot her BG#s even higher. But once the pain was gone we could then work with the Endo to get her BG#s in the acceptble range again. Sometimes it would take 4 to 6 mos to get her in better control.

The last RA flare she had was horrible. She was usually rather stoic about pain but when we went to ER for the pain they asked the standard pain scale question: 1 to 10? She answered "20". It was pain that the morpine shot just barely took the edge off. The pills hardly helped her at all. She received a cortisone shot at the major source of her pain her left wrist and the pain seemed to resolve.

I am praying that you find some safe way to relieve your pain. Perhaps you might want to try an urgent care or an ER to get relief. and do try Back pain connect.

Please check back here and let us know how you are

God's blessings be to you and yours

James

I right down what my BS is befor meals and what it is two Hr after meals
as well as how much insulin I gave myself ,what I needed to add to make my BS go to the good range. The book I use is The Calorie King it has it all lol even eating out .
I know its a pain in the butt .
