Today I received the results of my latest A1c test and the results were excellent. It's been a bit over four months since my last test and since then I have changed my eating habits and lost thirty pounds. Also doing a lot of walking.

My last A1c result was 6.7. When I began the tests I was at 5.9 and I got a bit cocky about it all. I thought a low reading was license to ignore the facts and so I continued terrible eating as my A1c readings slowly went up.

Today my A1c was 5.6 and I'm amazed and thankful. I have lost weight several times in the past only to regain it and I have hope that this time things can be different.

I am glad I have this community to come to for support. Hopefully another person with good news might encourage someone.

I find your article inspiring. I am struggling with my weight and the holidays have not proven to be an easy obstacle to hurdle. I am hoping to come down in weight and get my A1c down as well. I truly enjoy reading about others who have made progress and it reminds me that i can do this too.

Dan, I've blown it on diets a lot in the past. I used willpower and pretty much ate non healthy food to lose the weight. Inevitably I fell off the wagon and gained it all back.

Now that I have diabetes I had to reconsider my approach. I needed to attempt to incorporate healthy food into my eating and change other things. The hardest part was simply getting started because the task seemed so impossible to me.

Once I got started things began to fall into place and the changes I've made I hope are lifestyle choices that will stay with me.

I realized I didn't have to starve myself or eliminate all carbs from my diet. That helps me emotionally and I think that's important as I believe many of us lose the battle in our minds when it comes to weight loss.

A huge plus for me is we have an exercise bike here and I use it a lot as well as walking a lot. I routinely walk to the store and other places nearby and those walks are about one and a half miles. If you're able, incorporate some sort of exercise into your life.

For the first time I came through Thanksgiving without a weight gain and even lost one and a half pounds that week. And I ate well on Thanksgiving day!

Believe me when I say I pretty much gave up on meaningful weight loss. I hope and pray that you are able to attain your goals. God bless! Allan
