I"m in denial, It showed up in my early 50'slike I had been told that veterans that was in Vietnam were coming up with Diebetes because of agent orange that was used to kill trees and other growth in areas to see the Vietcon. It was sprayed by air planes,so it got every where.I weighed in my 250's to 265 when I started taking insulin,I could still breath and walk pretty normal and I shot up in weight and every thing started happening to me.I could say alot more, but my typring finger gets tired.

Welcome and thank you for your service. I was in denial too at the beginning. Its important you start to watch what you eat and care for yourself! Your important! No one can do it but you! You will feel so much better I promise! Before I started insulin I was tired all the time and just wanted to sleep. Force yourself to walk a little each day just start out slow. You really will feel better. Its so important we watch what we eat, I learned that! I understand how insulin causes weight gain and that is so discouraging just take it small steps at a time! You can do it! Hang in there and keep comming back here. This has the most careing and gunine people I've ever met here and we will help you every step of the way! Good luck and remember small steps at a time! Small steps can lead to a big change! Do it for yourself and your family! Let us know how it goes ok.

Hi and welcome to DC Family, I too served in Vietnam 68 to 71. I was dx in june 2008 but my diabetes came from my family, my uncle, my sister and both my grandmothers all had diabetes. I will not let diabetes beat me and I will live as long as I can by keeping my diabetes in check. Vietnam did not kill me and neither will my diabetes. You need to take care of yourself and fight this disease.

Well first of all let me say "thank you for your service to our country" Another vet I knew pretty well had DM from the same source.

I'm sorry you have to go through this.

You say you're in denial. Are you not doing the things which you know would control your DM?

I'd invite you to be a friend, but you've posted annonymously so I can't ask, and therefore can't email you on the DC system either.

Since I am not annon you could invite me to friends and after I accept, we could talk off the discussion boards.

May God's richest blessings be to you and yours

James
