I am going to start a very controversial discussion here. My intent is to get you to truly explore options you have BEYOND INSULIN or pharmacuticals. I am not telling you that you do not have diebetes, or how to treat the symptoms. But I want to get you to realize that using INSULIN and Pharmacuticals is only covering the symptoms and NOT truly treating the cause.
So lets begin. What is Diebetes??? Lets go beyond the doctors answer of too high a sugar level or too low a sugar level. Understand, those two SYMPTOMS are a result of something else going on in your body. What is the cause?? Can you guess? Begin your study. Then answer.

I'm new to Diabetic Connect and I can answer this question and reveal the underlying cause with the very first post that will be tittled, I saved a life, now save yours!

I read the I saved a life article and found it very interesting. However, it also makes me a bit depressed. I'm trying to cut carbs and using diet sweetners help with that but if I have to cut out the diet sweetners that doesn't leave much left to eat. I'm already on a no pasta, bread, dessert diet, so cutting out sugar free jello, sugar free sodas, sugar free anything else leave pretty much meat and salads. This is so limiting to me both emotionally and physically. What do you recommend? It is especially difficult at family and church gatherings to see everyone else enjoying a variety of foods and I'm stuck with salad yet once again. My inner demons immediately want carbs when this happens. lol

dej3, thank you for reading my post and found it interesting. I'm sorry it makes you depressed and trust me, it ticks me off too. But, I'm happy to know I can start the detoxing for my friend and me to boycott the companies and / or products that contains unnecessary chemicals.

What do I recommend. My suggestion first would be to take any and all foods that are in your cabinet that contains Aspartame and Phenelalyine back to the grocer and tell them that foods make you sick.

Fight city hall by the dollar they seek from your ATM wallet by boycotting those that unnecessary add toxic chemicals to the foods you eat.

Make up a blog, write up your story, add health news and what ever other information you find and link it in your profile for which so many freak out here at DC just because they see someone with a website.

Avoid foods that contains MSG. My friend has lost 52 pounds without exercising by doing two things. NO MORE DRINKING EMBOLMING FLUID a.k.a Aspertame a.k.a formaldehyde a.k.a Phenylalanine in foods and NO MORE eating foods that contains MSG.

Rule of thumb to go by.

If it's God made, it's good for you. If it's man made, it for Profits.

Support your local farmer and buy fresh produce.

Look into STEVIA, it's a natural herb that is good for you. About 300 times sweeter then sugar. Drink herbal teas with stevia, coffee, use it in baking foods too.

You Are The Answer.

I know it has something to do with your pancreas and your body not producing or using its own insulin correctly—- am I right?

Diabetes is one of every disease that attacks your body because your body is acidic. By getting your ph levels to highly alkaline you can rid yourself of Diabetes and every other disease. It is working for me and know it is working for many others. I follow Dr Robert Young at phmiracleliving.com. Neither the doctors nor the health practioners have the answers. Dr Young has the answer. He has the documented proof that it is that your body is Acidic and can be helped by becoming Alkaline.

This seems to be quite a trend. I find it interesting, but have yet to find where to purchase an alkaline water. I am not going to invest in one of those filter/converters...someone was telling me about food grade peroxide for alkalinity. Are you familiar with that?

jetten2 2010-10-31 10:45:44 -0500 Report

You can make your water alkaline by putting a pinch of baking soda in your glass of water or by putting ph drops in your water. For a liter bottle of course you must put in extra. You can test your level of acidity or alkalinity by urinating or saliva on ph litmus paper. Most people are between 5.5 and 6.5 on the scale which is acidic. You want to get to at least 8 ph which is alkaline. You can test your water by also using it on the litmus paper & if it is acidic add more ph drops or baking soda.
Yes hydrogen peroxide has definite positive results but it is very hard to find the 35% version needed for health benefits because it has been used by people making explosives. Most places charge additional fees to buy it. We found one place in Texas that is reasonable. The form used on wounds is only 3% & another is only around 10%. But you do not need hydrogen peroxide to make your water alkaline. Just use the baking soda or ph drops. Every time you drink water you should make sure it is alkaline. It is the single most important step you can do on the journey to make yourself alkaline. Remember if your body is ALKALINE it cannot have disease.

There are things that contribute to it. Are you thinking emotionally, spiritually or just physically? There is a destruction of our body in some way either from outside influences or internal...and they are so vast, where do we begin? Then there is the combination of genes, external influences and our own body doing some pretty funky stuff to us, or are we doing it to our body? You see, there are so many questions. You must give us a hint, as guessing is never a very productive exercise when it comes to our health. While I do believe there is great strength in antidodical observations, they cannot be applied to all, as we all vary so much.

Many don't require medicines. Many can work with their bodies and keep them happy. Some seem to need different or more external influences to help the internal mechanisms.

Howdy Galen
You urge us "Begin your study. Then answer." , Galen. Besides "Dabetes" (DM) what EXACTLY about DM do you want us to study. You seem to me to sound like you want us to be like a cowboy who jumped on his horse and galloped in all directions at once.

A lot of us here at DC (also at other DM sites) have been intently studying DM for a number of years. Many of us have looked at DM a multitude of different ways.

I give up already! Share your thoughts about what the cause of DM is with us.

Well, the fact that you can't spell diabetes doesn't really fill me with confidence that you know anything about it. Plus you say that too high a sugar level or too low a sugar level are symptoms but then say that diabetes is "impaired carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism owing to insufficient secretion of insulin or to target tissue insulin resistance" which is essentially saying the same thing because they are symptoms as well.

It would be nice to have a one sentence answer to what diabetes is but I don't think you will ever find one since even in people with the same type of diagnosed diabetes the manifestation is different in each person. It's largely genetic, there are environmental factors which are still unknown but the underlying cause and mechanism of action is still not understood. I don't know how much man made contribution is involved but looking at it just from the gene pool, since diabetics have had better and better treatment over the decades and are living longer and longer the diabetes genes are spreading a lot more than they would have decades ago. Who really knows though, I don't, experts don't and I'm sure no one else does yet. However, if you have found the underlying truth to diabetes I expect we'll be hearing a lot about it very soon through multiple channels and you will be receiving a nobel prize next time since it's a pretty huge and medically significant discovery.

I am wondering if the OP's misspelling of DM is something deliberate, KD.

"Die" is a pretty powerful word and it shakes up a lot of people. After you pointed out his misspelling, he continues to spell it that way in nearly every place he uses the word.

I suspect he spells it that way deliberately, for his own reasons - which I could only guess at.

Hummmmm. I Know one thing, I sure feel a whole lot better on my insulin and the big thing is that with insulin my blood sugar is under total control. So I also believe our insulin resistance , or lack of insulin production is certainly helped by adding insulin. Why the resistance you ask? Do doctors really know the answer to that? I Do know for sure insulin helps. It Doesn't cover the symptoms its helping the problem of our bodies not producing enough insulin.its not masking anything . Do you use insulin, have you ever ? Have you ever been so bad you feel drunk or see double? Well I have, and I know for sure insulin stopped all those teriable symptoms. Some people expirence what I described after eating are you saying we don't need insulin? What do you suggest we do when our diabetes puts us in a so state like that? I'd like to know my options at that point. Insulin has been a God send for me.I'm a little confused, what exactly are you trying to say ?

whitetigress 2010-10-24 14:42:32 -0500 Report

I agree with you, Galen, that there is an underlying cause that turns on the "switch" - just like cancer. I also believe that "diabetes" develops over time, that it is not an over night occurance. Everyone is an individual as to what that is. At the same time, there is so much crap in our food today that we really have to become very careful about what we are eating. Chemicals, food coloring, fillers, SUGAR masked in so many ways, and the list goes on. There are so many "foriegn" foods on our supermarket shelves that our bodies are paying the price.

Yes, you are right on!! follow the use of corn syrup since 1971 (nixons war on poverty) and the rise of diebetes and cancer. Very interesting. Too much info for here, but there are "cures" to be had. It all starts in the gut.

GabbyPA 2010-10-26 12:46:08 -0500 Report

Yes, there is another discussion that was similar and I truly believe that GMO foods are a huge trigger in our lives. Our bodies are not knowing what to do with all that garbage. I have worked hard to eliminate the obvious ones, but there are GMO ingredients in nearly everything....it is hard to escape. But we must try.

Education here is the key. I won't take a doctors advice without doing some research. Its quite easy to do and very worthwhile. GMO foods are the new curse to America. like corn syrup, and MSG, it is become invasive in our diet. You are right on!!

I am not a doctor, but the correct answer is that diebetes is a chronic syndrome of impaired carbohydrate, protein, and fat metabolism owing to insufficient secretion of insulin or to target tissue insulin resistance. It occurs in two major forms: type 1 d. mellitus and type 2 d.
