Welcome to Diabetic Connect (aka DC). I am a "newbie" here and to diabetes, diagnosed in March. It may appear that I know a lot about diabetes and can offer some advice but mainly I can offer genuine support in what you have, are and will be going through. This place, in my opinion, is more than a community… it's a family! This site is one which allows you to laugh or cry, share or sit back and learn. We pride ourselves on motivation, education and inspiration. You'll find people just like you and those quite different from you but we have our stories… the successes and failures but we are in it together. When I was diagnosed it was a quick phone call from the doctor and while the exact words escape me now they pretty much said, "you're diabetic… you need to lose weight, ramp up the exercise, stay away from natural sugar… oh, and have a nice day." Wow… have a nice day??? There was no talk of meters or testing, support, or anything. My fingers hit google and I'm here!!! I've made some awesome friendships in the past "few" months with people I may never get to meet but feel close to. Funny, isn't it??? I've dropped weight, learned to eat better, exercise more aggressively, and my main secret… laughing at myself. If there's anything that I can do or say to help with your journey, just say the word. I take the "friend" label seriously so feel free to add me to your friends list and to stay in touch with me. We can't change our disease but we can change our attitudes and lifestyle to beat the odds of complications. We do this with contact to our medical teams, family and friends, inner voices, and support from each other here. I don't have all of the answers but I will be glad to hear the questions. Ask whatever is on your mind or in your heart. Someone is sure to have an opinion, an option, or suggestion for you. God knows there have been many people who have changed my life. I'm willing to bet that you will be on that list as well. Thanks for joining us!!!
