accutane and type 1
HI everyone, my daughter age 26, just found out about 2 months ago that she has type 1. Of course we are all devasted and very, very surprised since no one in our family has diabetes. I was doing some research on accutane and the possibility of getting Type 1. I found many sites where people said they took accutane when they were younger and pe 1 later on. I was wondering if any of you had been on accutane and now have type one. I also was wondering if this is so have you heard anything about a class action. I know accutane causes IBD ( crohns and colitis), and that is why I started doing this research. If you don't want to discuss this on the bouard my email is ssolz311@gmail.com. I also got in touch with a Hospital in Israel where they are doing stem cell therapy on type 1 and I am hoping that will be an answer for all afflicted with diabetes.

I am very interested in reading about this. I have often wondered if there is any connection in any way between Accutane and Type 1 Diabetes. I took Accutane at age 19 for two six month intervals. I do not have Diabetes but my daughter does. I had my daughter at age 24 (5 years after) I took the drug. And then she was diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes at age 5. She's 15 now. I remember taking that drug and I often tell people, it's the worlds worst drug with the best result. I remember the awful side effects and know that it's often given to chemo patients. Often have wondered if there was any link.
I took Accutane for a year my senior year of high school. After my freshman year of college I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I don't have any family history of type 1. While no one knows what really causes type 1 diabetes, I believe that it was the Accutane that caused mine.
Be careful about class action suits. They generally benefit the lawyers only. They get so many people to sign up that any payout is pennies for each person. You would need to show a direct cause of diabetes from the accutane and that would be difficult, because they still don't really know the cause of diabetes. Keep us informed about the stem cell therapy, because I believe thats the only true chance we have.
