I have been on insulin now for a little over a month and have begun to gain weight much to my chagrin. It's only about 10 pounds, but it seems to be bloated weight. I am kind of freaking out because I don't want to gain weight. I am only looking to take off about 5 to 8 pounds. I've been trying to be super conscious about what I eat, and for the first time on insulin, I'm not always super hungry between meals. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to take off this extra poundage. I already work out religiously 4 days a week. Help!!!

Hi I'm new to insulin too. I've only been on it two months. This weight gain was explained to me like this, now because of the insulin our bodys are actually using the nutrients where as before they were going to waste so eating as we normally do causes weight gain in the beginning. I hope I explained that correctly but its like before insulin our food wasent going to as good of use as it is now. Its getting absorbed into our cells now so at first we will gain weight. Good luck with your treatment! I just got put on a twenty four hour insulin called lantus its been working really well for me! When I do raise up I use humulinR to help bring me down to normal. I hope its going well for you!

Thank you. It was explained to me that way as well. I'm starting to feel as if I don't need to take the Humalog 3 times a day as well as Lantus at bedtime.

Since I've got put on lantus I rarely have to use my humulin now too. My doctor raised my dose of lantus by five units and its been a miricle for me. Talk to your doctor and maybe if he/she raises your lantus dose you won't have to take the other. I still have my rx for my other insulin but since I'm on a sliding scale I don't think I'm going to be needing it. Lantus is working so well for me. You just need to find your correct dose.
