I am kind of confused about these. i know that it is the Total Carbs minus the Fiber. and that the net carbs are what significantly affect blood sugars, but how would know how many carbs are in the serving size if they just give the net carbs? I have found a lot of good recipes but they only have net carbs posted.

When I first started counting I got confused too Doesn't help that nutritionists vary some in their formulas too — I was told take 5 carbs from the total if there was 5g of fiber but only if there was a 5g fiber minimum (not really a straight 1 to 1). But I'd also heard Gabby's version and a couple of others. Then of course you throw in things that affect your absorption of the carbs (fats usually).

Guess long story short, trial and error and a good food log was about how I could do it on lots of things.

Net carbs in a recipe are kind of bogus unfortunately. The way Net carbs are supposed to work is that if you have over 3 grams of fiber in a serving, you get to take 1.5 grams out of your carbs. A lot of companies don't do this properly to make their low carb items seem more low carb. This is the formula my diabetes educator gave me to figure things out.

So if it is in a recipe as net carbs without the whole carb count, beware!

I have to count carbs which at first confused me. Maybe talking with a nutritionist could help you understand? Mine really helped me figure out how to count carbs and what are good and bad carbs to eat.

I really need to see 1 also. But with my co-pay I can't afford it and having been trying to do it by myself. It is very hard tho most days.

Yea I have at my school a diabetic educator and I can see her for free because we pay the health care fee for the semester. Wish we had a nutrionist.

I understand that I have been counting carbs for the past 6 months, but never had to deal with net carbs, but I figured out how many carbs are in the carbquik baking mix so i figured out that it is 12 grams of carbs for 1 cinnamon roll with the topping :] think i'm gonna post the recipe
