Hi Everyone,

I'm newly diagnosed (August 2010), and Type II. This morning I found out that my boyfriend was just diagnosed with Mono. I'm now wondering, due to the highly contagious manner of Mono… what sort of effect does getting other illnesses have on your Diabetes? Has anyone ever had Mono and Diabetes at the same time? I may be reading too much into this, but I just want to be prepared and… the more information the better!

Any insight appreciated! Hope you're all having a lovely day (and staying dry, we're nearly drowning here in NJ!).

Deinitely I would check with my dr to see if you had mono - diabetes is enough to deal with plus any other illness. Good Luck to you.

You have to remember your immune systems is about half of what it use to be when you did not have diabetes. having diabetes cuts your immune system in half you can get sick real easy.

Will do, thanks. We're long distance so I haven't seen him in over a month, so hopefully I'm okay… but better to get checked than have some complications!

wow, I didn't know that mono was deadly. I just thought it made people lethargic. I guess I need to study on that myself then.

Anything that is going to cause symptoms similar to diabetes (feeling tired) should be watched with great care. I don't have any idea how it would affect your BG numbers or anything like that. It should prove to be an interesting study and research.

Thanks for your help!! I agree, it'd be interesting to look into.. but hopefully I don't have to go through it. haha

I hope that too...and since you guys have been apart for a while, your chances are probably slim. But checking it out would be good. Read the livestrong link above. It is very helpful.
