I joined the Joslin site on Face Book and posted the following question:

"When I participated in the Medalist Study in December, 2009, I was told that the Study might end in April, 2011. Is that still true? It was mentioned that additional funding might keep the Study going beyond that date."

The reply today from the Joslin Diabetes Center:

"Hi, Richard. Here's a message from the Medalist Study staff:

No, no, no! The Medalist Project is thriving! We are happy to report we have funding from JDRF, NIH and generous donors for a few more years. As you may know funding for research is a year-to-year project, but Drs. King and Keenan and their colleagues are adamantly pursuing it and will be for years to come. We appreciate all the Medalists’ support through their participation."

Now I have mixed emotions about that reply. I felt certain that it would end in April, and I was so anxious to read the final report.
I also realize that the additional years will enable them to have even more findings, and be more conclusive about the statements in the final report. So, I am trying to be happy about the delay of that report.

I would hope that they continue to release reports on topics they can support, but it will be interesting to see what the final conclusions are. Hope they can make it soon for the people who could benefit from it!

You will be because I know that you understand the value of deep research and through study of any subject. Otherwise you would have never written your book. Just think of it as a prolonged Christmas will be worth the wait.
