When I got up this morning my sugar was 216. Then I ate a bowl of cereal and it went to 250. I did not feel good and was very tired so I went back to bed and got on my o2. Then a little bit later I got up and was still feeling bad so I took my sugar again and it was 226. Hubby had spent the evening cooking on the bbq pit so I tried to eat and could not eat everything tasted salty salty. Like sodium. I also felt like I was going to throw up so I left the food alone for a bit and in about 30 mins I ate a sandwich…I know we are not suppose to eat bread or lunch meat but I had to eat something…I managed to eat that and tried my sugar again about an hour later and it was 165. Still felt week but I did feel better. Any clue what was wrong? I am normally the one to grab the salt shaker but tonight everything tasted of nothing but pure salt. I am going to go to the Dr tomorrow but I was scarred and do not like the feelings I am getting.

Last night for the first time in ages I was waking up and hitting the bathroom a lot, I had eaten a different brand of hamburger bun and my BGL was 157, not as high as yours but much higher then I am used to and it made me feel lousy.

At 2am I took two 625mg apple cider vinegar capsules and two gymnema capsules and within a short time was down below 120.

If it had happened during the day I would have went out and pushed the lawn mower around

Thank yall for all the help and suggestions. I did go to the Doctor today and she said she was not sure about that salty taste on everything but sometimes when your body does not want the food it will make it taste off so you don't eat it. She did all kinds of blood work and said she will call me in a couple of days to let me know the results. Now I am gonna be on pins and needles till she calls me. She did liver enzymes, A1C, Kidney check, cholesterol, CBC, and I think thyroid. and with the blood they took maybe some others lol. She also, Bless her heart, gave me a month of the med I was out of in samples. So I am going to keep a close eye on the BG for the next few days and when she calls me if they are still up I will let her know. I have not been checking my sugars the last few weeks I have been out of strips but hubby went to good old Wal-Mart and bought me a new meter and 100 strips for 9.00 for the meter and 35.00 for the 100 strips. so I am a blood checking fool for the next few days. She also is sending me to UTMB in Galveston Texas which is a huge hospital and mass of Doctors offices. They do a lot of charity work, I had both my girls there due to when I was pregnant with them we had no insurance, but she is sending me there in hopes to get a hysterectomy… yeah. lol Once again yall thank yall so much for the comments and suggestions I do feel better and I am checking my BG now. So all is well in the house at the moment. Hugz yall and thanks for being there.

Please keep us posted on your labs and how all of that goes. That hospital sounds like a god send to many people. And what would we do without walmart! LOL

What kind of morning readings are you used to having? 216 is high for a fasting number, so if that is unusual for you it could explain why you feel so crummy. What I would suggest if you are starting high like that, I would eat a protein or veggie based breakfast. Cereal is all carb and if you add milk, there is more carb. On mornings when I am high, I eat some sauteed veggies with some nuts or meat in it. That gives me a little of everything and usually brings my numbers down along with my meds.

As for the salt, sometimes when we are not feeling well, things taste off to us, and you body might have just been telling you to hold off on that. You know how we get cravings, well the opposite happens too and we find foods we like repulsive at times. You are listening to your body and that is the first step to finding out what is going on.

Talk to your doctor and don't let her fluff it off. Tell her that you are concerned and why. Share as much detail as you can. You never know if something you say will trigger an idea in her mind as to how to help.

I hope you are feeling better soon and able to get the help you need with your meds.

and when you do eat bread, compare the carbs on the brands in your store, and go for whole wheat. Natures Own Whole Wheat is what I prefer, and I think its just 16 carbs for two slices, after subtracting the fiber carbs. Good luck.

I am not on medication so what I am about to suggest may or may not work for you but when my BG is high, I will go for a walk and/or drink water. When you mentioned eating cereal, are you talking about Lucky Charms or a healthier kind of cereal. It may be the cereal and/or bread that raised your sugar. As for the sodium/salt taste, I cannot tell you why you experienced that but I also can't diagnose why you're not feeling well. There are lots of viruses going around (welcome to fall) so that may be at fault. You are wise to go to the doctor for the kinds of symptoms you are having. We can guess but it's best to follow doctor advice, testing, and diagnosis. Hope you are feeling better by the time you read this reply.

I am on Metformin twice a day and Januvia once a day but I am out of Januvia and that script is 250.00 so thanks for the advice of some very sweet people here I told my hubby I was going to look them up and get the info. for getting help from Merck…the company that makes the med. …and I have my part ready to go I just have to take it to the doctor and get her to finish it and send it in. I know that is part of it and I gonna get jumped tomorrow I know that much for not telling her I was out. But I have never felt as bad as I have all day today. I am really worried something else is wrong.
