Ask your Dr. about going to Diabetes Ed classes. I'm going and it helped me out alot. I to did not know what to do or when to eat etc. And with taking these classes I now know what to do and the right way to do it. And you have to eat right to lose weight!

I get weight off by grazing, eating the small 5-6 snacks a day. It keeps the metabolism going and makes me fel less hungry with the shorter time between eating. It is close to the amount of food as I would eat in 3 meals, just slightly less. Plus I get the bonus of having a few snacks. Basically like Ray outlines.

Everybody and every body is different but I eat probably 5-6 times a day, small meals. My breakfast will start off as an 80 calorie yogurt and an Atkins bar. A few hours later I will have some low fat cheese or nuts or something from my "snack attack" discussion that I posted a while back. At lunch I will usually have leftovers or a salad or another low calorie but filling entree. Then a few hours later it's snack time. My dinner is usually a protein and veggies (I skip or limit the potatoes, pasta, rice, etc) and then it's snack time again before bed. I'm not big on sweets so my snacks are usually low fat, low cal, low sodium, etc choices. Through the day I get a total of less calories than if I were binge eating and my bg levels stay pretty level. The most important bit of advice is do not skip breakfast. That's the most important meal for energy and to help with morning highs. Drink more water. Exercise when you can and it doesn't have to be high impact exercise… vacuum the floors, stretch, leg lifts, walking, or whatever. You won't lose weight by not eating… you'll lose energy. Try making a list of things you like and cross reference the list with things that are good for you. The right menu plans will come in time and you'll be a happier, healthier and thinner you.

One thing that a lot of people don't realize is that not eating will cause you to gain weight. Your metabolism will slow down and your body will do its best to hold on to every calorie you take in because it does not know when its next meal is coming. The best thing you can do if you want to lose weight is what Gabby said. Plan your caloric intake for each day at a healthy weight loss level then split it into several small meals per day.

It is not that you have to eat more, it is just that you should spread your food out during the day to prevent the up's and down's of your blood sugars like Mo said.

So let's say you are going to eat on a normal day a 1600 calorie diet that will include about 100-120 g of carbs in there. What can help is if you find out what to eat that will meet those goals and then split it up into 4-6 eating times. It sounds a little goofy, but think of it as budgeting. You give yourself a goal for the day, and just divide it up so you can always keep your body busy working on something. Specially if you are taking meds. If you don't have food in your tummy you can have some pretty serious side effects.

Well it is recommended to eat 3 meals a day so that you get hypoglycemia (low blood suagrs) or if you'd like eat 6 small meals like a salad or whatever. But you really should eat enough to keep your blood sugars level. Are you recently diagnosed?
