I and my extended family do not get flu shots and have only had a problem on the few times it WAS taken (mom and her senior citizen brother both had bad flu both times they took the shot). But I agree, if you are a person at risk of developing health complications from getting the flu, a vaccine is a good precaution to take. We just take massive doses of vitamin d (35 I.U./pound weight) all fall, winter and spring, and have had our healthiest winters ever as a result.

I had my flu shot today also. I started feeling strange prickly sensations like being stung by a bee feeling on certain areas of my body. Also, the shot didn't hurt much, but now my arm is really sore. I have been taking the flu shot for 3 years now. I gets really sick when I get the flu so for me it is always best for me.

I hope you are feeling better by now, Harlen. It difficult to decide whether or not to get the flu shot. I never had one until my son was born premature, and his doctor said it wasn't an option, everyone in the family got one. I've continued to get one year after year because it does seem to reduce flu and viruses in my case, and with multiple health conditions, I know I'm at greater risk for dropping dead with something simple. It never makes me feel better when the news reports that someone that died of the flu had "underlying medical conditions."

ha-ha…it's like the drunk who goes down but doesn't spill a drop. LOL… Did you take a BG reading when you were feeling funny after the flu shot? I haven't gotten it this season yet…will soon. Get it every year, because I taught Nursery School for years…like working in a big petri dish! Was the reaction over by next day? Theresa

Hi Harlen. If I was around, I would've hit those last two stairs and said "Bad Stairs" to take your mind off the skinned knees and hopefully made you smile thru your tears. Always worked for any little kids I was around!

Did you get out this way and not let me know?????

I used to get an upper respiratory infection every year that would require prednisone, nebulizer treatments and caused my blood sugar to go very high. Ever since I started getting flu shots I don't get sick with colds, URI's or the flu. I make sure I schedule my flu shot when I know I can take it easy for a couple of days. I make sure I eat right on the days following the flu shot; that is not the time to get off track on your meal plan.

I know it is a little out of character for me to advocate traditional medicine but I have had nothing but good results from getting yearly flu shots. If you are someone who gets sick every year like I used to but never got a flu shot, I suggest you try something different this year. If you do what you've always done, you will get what you've always gotten.

one thing to remember is that the flu its self does not kill you, but it makes other bugs go nuts an thats what kills you… I myself have never had a flu shot an like Skip I dont have that problem… The side affects of what the flu does is the bad part.. If you keep the other bugs in control you are back up an at it in 24hrs. other wise the bacteria in the lungs or other places goes nuts an that is what does the damage. The bad bacteria likes you to have a fevor so they can live an do the damage an thats what is what hurts you…

Harlen, please be careful. I know many people get the flu shot, but it really is a scary thing when it can turn and make you sick. Plus, this season, the H1N1 and similar vaccines are all included in your generic flu shot so be very careful, as there are many side effects with that vaccine. Keep an eye on things and call your doctor if symptoms worsen.
