I have suffered from migraines since i was a young child (it runs in my family) but ive noticed that since ive become diabetic ive started to get migraines more and more often. I was refered to a neurologist because of a mild seizure during a "complicated migraine" and was started on topomax for headache prevention and given zomig for onset of headache but i still keep suffering from them atleast 3 days a week and it is usually when my sugar is off. Does anyone else have this problem and how do you cope?

I've had migraines since childhood. I have run the gambit of cures. I have minor help with meditation and yoga, excederin, and warm bath with scented candles. The pharmical dictionary and my own recipies. 25mg benadryl and 1 asprin.
Check to make sure you can mix with your regular mix. Percogesic (Walmart), red wine.
Precious, take care.

I get more migraines when my sugar levels are off also. I take nortripyline. It helps prevent migraines and it also helps with nerve pain. I try to control the levels. I cannot take Topomax because it causes me to be severly depressed. My neuro doctor said I have too much blood flowing to my brain. Good luck. I hope you find the right mix to help you.

I have had migraines for years until I got dx with diabeties. I hardly ever get them now. I'm not sure if it's some med I'm taking or I have finally got rid of a lot of the stress I was under. Good luck in finding what will work for you! HUGS

I was given Zoming for mine, but I hardly ever take it since they cost so much and they make me sleepy. I have had migraines before I was told I was a diabetic.

Hi bizzach,
I also have suffered from Migraines froma young age and they also run in my Family. For a while they tried me on some of the migraine meds that you start at the onset of a migraine at first they helped, but now nothing helps. I asked my old Dr. for a Brain Scan, because last year my 23 yr. old Niece died of a brain anyurism when she was 8 months pregnant, the Drs. were able to save the baby, but he refused to due one. My new Dr. is setting one up for me as she said just in case.
I have noticed lately since my pain management Dr. upped my topamax because of my restless leg syndrome, that they have eased off alot. I haven't had a Migraine in a while. I take 200mg of Topamax a day. Maybe if your Dr. upps your dosage it will help better.

you've asked the $64 question. In my case migraines started early in life. only ocassionally, can I reduse or stop them. My blood sugar levels are usually high when they hit. At the same time my BP is mt. st. Hellens explosive.
You might check your BP.
