I have quit twice…the first time I did not succeed because I really didn't want to…I actually felt like I was being MADE TO QUIT AGAINST MY WISHES. I think this is the key to my success now…the second time I made up my mind to quit all on my own…I was actually ready to quit of my own accord.
I quit cold turkey and have not wanted or craved a smoke since. The first time I even dreamed of smoking…so I have to believe it has a lot to do with ones frame of mind about it.
Maybe I just got lazy and was tired of having to excuse myself to go outside…or maybe I was tired of being treated as some sort of "second class citizen" because I smoked…whatever the reason, it worked…it was MY TIME TO QUIT.
I cannot stand to be around smoke now and I definitely do not want another cigarette…nor do I want my house or vehicle to smell like cigarette smoke again.

I have been using 4mg Nicorette gum now for 2 wks. It really curbs a nicotin fit!!! I used them to quit before. They work for me. You might try them. Good Luck. Leigh

I'm so glad someone brought this up. I am still smoking and I know I need to quit. The only problem is, I don't want to quit…I actually enjoy smoking, but I keep reading about how smoking can intesify most diabetic problems. Slowly this is trickling into my brain. I am oging to keep reading all this info and maybe it will click here soon.

I dont think anyone that needs help to quit smoking is weak!!! If it was that easy there wouldn't be so many smokers in the world…I think I'll ask my doctor about chantix…hmmmm

No your right vicki no one is weak. I was like you…I so enjoyed smoking and didn't want to stop either. It took getting sick and having to have my caroidartries cleaned out to quit at the age of 46. The Dr told me the one reason for the surgery was the smoking.
Not trying to scare you or anyone else, that is just what happened to me and just one reason why I quit. I never want to go though that again. Someday you will do it for your self. Lanore :-)

Yes I smoked for 3 years… One day I woke up and had Bells Palsy… Temporary Paralysis of one side of my face for over a month… i started to feel tingles in my feet from this and decided.. God, you have a great plan for me and I thank you for taking this problem from me.. And I stopped. I started substituting my cigarettes with Gum and also cinnamon sticks. Basically what I was doing is feeding my oral fixation with an althernative. You can Quit if you believe you can!!!

Congrat!! to both of you, that was how I quit as well. Mind up my mind and with God's help, more God's help though. Welcome to the world of a nonsmoker. :-)

Smoking is a hard habit to break,it's been rough for me but I'm almost there, sometimes life is so depressing, there are problems that never seem to go away and reaching for that cigarette seems to be the only comfort…am sure we've all been there but God is good and we do want to live longer lives so quitting is the only answer.

I'm weak! I need the patch to help me quit. draw back: reaction to the patch will make the site itchy.

Hi donnaAnnI'm weak too' I have been smoking for 45 yrs, Gave up for 1 yr. after a trople by pass ,but each time I have to have another surgery I start again,I've gone from two packs to about one half pack but can't stay away. I tried the gum, nothing, can't keep the patch on because of excessive sweating, Asked my Doctor about Chantex but he said I'm on to many Meds now. so I guess I just remain weak

I started smoking when I was 14 and smoked until I was 30…I just made my mind up one day that I had to quit for my health, my children, husband, plus I watched my father-in-law die from Lung Cancer and I did not want to die like that…I wish you the best of luck, because I had tried so many times in the past to quit (but really did not want to) now days they have so many different things that may help…Good Luck!!!

Lanore 2008-09-11 02:10:32 -0500 Report

I did but only after i had to have my caroid artieries cleaned out, back in 2003. I was only 45 yrs old. How I did was with the good Lord's help and cold turkey. I am very happy to say that i have not smoked since. It is not an easy thing to do but it can be done. I smoked for over 30 yrs. Good luck to you. Lanore : )
