My eight year old nephew was playing the Transformers game online. He is really quite awesome at this game. I looked at his little face, and I could see the determination and focus in his eyes when the round started. He asked me to sit down beside him and watch him win. He was only moments into the match when my mother called for him, and he shouted these words, "I can't grandma. I'm in the battle, and I can't move."

While those words were still ringing in my spirit, I said to my mother, "Let the boy play. I'll take care of that for you." My little nephew didn't even realize the potency of what he had said. I know I'm not alone when I say that I'm in the battle, and I can't move from this fight. I'm not interested in dying right now because I've got too much to live for.

I'm in the battle to win the fight against this diabetes disease. I can't retreat from this battle. I can't take time off from this battle. I can't fight only when I feel like it. I can't lose myself in this battle because I had a life before this disease, and I will purposely make it an even better one with this disease. I can't allow the fate of this fight to rest on the actions or the lack of actions of others because this is my fight, and I'm in the battle to win it!!!

I can not get over the fact that I have Diabetes. But the battle is not mine it's the LORD, so I just let the LORD fight my battle for me.

jayabee52 2011-03-19 14:47:35 -0500 Report

Now King David may have said that (or something like that) but that didn't mean he sat on his hands and did nothing about the battle.

I pray that "I just let the LORD fight my battle for me" is not an excuse for inaction on your part to control your Diabetes ("DM"). Denial (sound it out) is NOT just a river in Egypt! God gave you the ability to think and reason, and allowed this condition to come into your life. He also gave us medical personnel to help us in the war with DM. Yes it is God who gives us the ultimate victory over DM, but we gotta be in it (the fight) to win it!

Praying God's richest blessings be upon you and yours

AuntieBear 2011-03-21 02:35:23 -0500 Report

I figure it this way: I take the meds, I try my hardest to control my food intake, I see my doctor, I do my foot checks EVERY day, I keep track of and control of my bgs and high blood pressure, and I try to keep a positive attitude about my DM (which can be extremely hard). If I could figure out an exercise that did not send my arthritis and neuropathy into phsychotic episodes I would do that too. Other than doing this, I do not know what else to do so what I can't do is up to the Lord. The point is I do try to do something because the Lord helps those who help themselves.

I have always found it interesting when something so small and seemingly insignificant leads some to have a big understanding of something happening to them. I too am in the battle. I do not know if I can win it, but I refuse to go down without a fight.

Its the small things that happen or are often spoken around us that we take for granted. I appreciate you sharing this, I love that you took what was so innocently said and saw it for its magnanimous meaning.

I pray your fight isnt always uphill, that you coast around corners and always see the meaning in everything around you.

Bless your heart. Keep fighting!

This evening I was talking to my daughter -in-law about a show that I used to watch with my kids called kids say the darndest thing's with Art Linkletter. What your nephew said at that moment remined me of just that moment. When I just read what you just had to say made me open my eyes I've never seen it that way we are in a (BATTLE OF OUR LIVES) in till we go!

Kaiyle 2010-09-07 04:16:24 -0500 Report

Yes we are in a battle, but it's a battle we can shift to our advantage by maintaining a healthy lifestyle from our heads to our toes.

Happy day my friend,
Just wanted to say praise God for your words. I have said that to friends of mine about different kinds of sickness. That there is a battle going on but we can win the war. Truth (face it) faith (all we need is a little) & God (turn it over to Him). He said He will never leave nor forsake us till the end of time. Thank you for being who you are to help us be who we should be. Stay blessed for you are highly favored in the name of Jesus.

Kaiyle, that is a very wonderful message you have presented! It is very clever and inspiring. Thanks so much! It makes me want to copy and paste it on other diabetes sites, so the members there can be inspired too!!! What do you think about that? I would not do it without your permission.

Those are truly inspiring words. I also am newly diagnosed in June of this year. I know I have to do what I have to do. My lifestyle has changed for the better. I do have friends that simply don't or won't understand what I am dealing with and are upset with me when I take care of my needs first. Very frustrating.

Kaiyle 2010-08-24 14:13:04 -0500 Report

Hello, It is so good to meet you, and thank you for accepting my request of friendship. I have some friends and family who don't seem to understand either, but thank God I have more that do than don't. It is frustrating especially when I have explained my situation and they still remain inconsiderate. I do have friends that come up with healthier solutions and/or compromises so I can really enjoy my time with them, and it's a much healthier choice for them too. I come up with solutions myself so I can enjoy to the fullest, my life and life around me. I wish all of my friends understood, but the one thing I will never do is sacrifice my health to hang with them.

You are ever so right in everything you said here. It is a great way to remind yourself when you feel like you do want to give up. Keep up the great mind thoughts and determination you have here. It will prove to be the greatest help in you being successful in the battle. It kind of reminds me of a song by Jordan Sparks but in a different way. We can win this…

Thank you, my friend, for the encouragement, and yes we can win this with every diligent effort we make. No progress is too small because it all adds up to better days ahead.

Happy day,
Praise God for this story, I say it everyday that I wake up that I am going to live till I die never wondering if I will die today, r the next. As most of you know I am not the diabetic in our hm it's Michael (my husband). But I suffer w/other things not more serious nor less serious. I have 2 blood vessel that is clogged that goes to my brain but the fact that it is not even a 50ty 50ty chance that i will survive the surgery I don't want it. I have signs of cancer returning in my stomach but the fact that I am a 2 time survivor that does not bother me either. Now I am not saying this for any pity (because I don't do pity parties) God don't attend so I don't care to get an invitation. I said all that to say this because I too am in the battle. Everyday that I wake up in my correct mind & know that I am awake (for so many wake up but really don't know what day time are year it is) that I am winning part of the fight. Thank you again for sharing & caring be blessed & I know that you know that you are highly favored in thee name of Jesus.

Amen friend I'm with you in winning this battle, your little nephew remind me of my little 7 year old grand son playing that same game on my computer. It's going to be hard but I know that it can be done and I know that I and I alone can and will make it happen. I found out in March of this year that I have type2 diabetes at age 49 and I was not happy. I've always been tough and I am a fighter.

Kaiyle 2010-08-23 08:39:05 -0500 Report

Yes, I'm a fighter too!!! I have always worked very hard at achieving my goals in life. Just when I feel like I can't take another step, I pull from way down in the depths of my spirit and find myself taking another step. I know it's the grace of God that I'm able to push through the obstacles onto the other side of victory!!!
