Good Luck on the walk and raising money. Right now things are a little tight for cash with some unpaid time off from wife's recent hospitalization(s) but definately going to see what I can do before the event to show support.

Just because you are diabetic doesn't mean you have to give up or give in as long as you become a little creative in swapping things. Many food options you're used to have alternative healthier versions. When I couldn't have a cinnabon bun I found an Atkins bar (2 g carbs) that gives me the taste without the insane carbs, mostly sugar. I shouldn't have regular pop (soda?) but found in moderation that I like diet cherry coke and diet lime coke. I can still have certain things but not as much as before. It's a test of strength to limit myself to 1 oz of sun chips rather than a whole bag of Lays (betcha can't eat just one).

Sure being diabetic means swapping and learning new patterns but they are healthier patterns. You didn't get diabetes from anything you did or didn't do. The risk factor from family history was there. It wasn't that Halloween when you were 8 years old that gave it to you. It was your pancreas that said, "I'll get you my pretty" (I love quoting Wizard of Oz)

The "diet" (let's say eating plan) that you are going to create is one that is safe and sane for diabetics and non-diabetics alike. This doesn't mean to give up eating but rather to learn what to eat, when to eat and how much to eat. You can still enjoy your life and still accomplish your dreams. Don't let diabetes or anything hold you back.

Now is a great time to try some new things … quinoa or brown rice instead of white rice, water instead of sugary stuff, protein shakes instead of milk shakes, a portion of meat instead of a half of a cow. You get the point!!!

We are thrilled to have you in our community and it's refreshing to see a young person with respect and intelligence and drive among a crowd of grumpy old men like me. You have so much to offer. Thanks for being part of our worlds.
