I have decided that it is time for me to decide where I want to live and what I want to do when I grow up. My kids are all grown at last. The last is headed to fashion design school the other is already married and now it's all about me. YES!!!!

I have lost a lot of weight my numbers are stablizing and I do believe it's time to live life. I have not felt this good in years, and even though I have more work to do, I'd like some new scenery. I thought for a while that I'd end up at the beach, but now I'm thinking green, somewhat mild, a place with definite seasons, and where I won't freeze my hiney off. I can handle a little cold weather but not snow up to my waist. Been there done that, shouvles (sP) retired.

For a while I have thought about moving out of the state of Calif. I"m looking at Kentucky, Louisville area. Any Kentuckians out there send me some feed back. I'd love to rent a small place with a little yard for flowers and a garden. Nothing fancy, just simple sweet and enough room for my dog and I. I'm looking about 18 plus months out…anyone else who has great places they live for a 50 something person like me…on a retirement income, bring it on!

Thanks I'll be waiting!!!

Change is good and boy am I ready : )

Get going! I too raised my kids alone, mostly, and helped my daughter with hers for the last 8 years. My youngest son told me a couple of years back to get going and do what I want not what I thonk is best for eveyone else. Last Christmas his gift to me was a book on single living and travelling. Said I need to get going. I retired at 50, 4 years ago! My plans were to travel, even move back to Alaska. Haven't succeeded yet but I did go to Alaska summer 08. So now I have a goal to buy a travel trailer next summer and do all that travelling and yes make Alaska my permanent home, finally. So get going girl! Eastern Kentuckt and Tennessee are beautiful along with lower WV. If I couldn't live in Alaska I would live in WV. Affordable housing and easy living.

Congratulations on the decision to take charge of your own life and dreams and goals. I am also interested in the feedback you are given on where to retire because I'm so tired of the Ohio winters but yet the cost of living here is pretty decent. There are many things to consider. Check your library for the magazine called "Where to Retire." Of course just know that what's true today may not be the case in 5 or 10 or 20 years. Know that where you live isn't as important as how you live. I'm tracking this thread and looking forward to some positive feedback. Hey, maybe we'll end up being neighbors??? :)

We are kindred hearts!

I live on the other coast, in Florida and my hubby and I are planning a 2 month sojourn through several states in search of a haven where we can live our lives uninterrupted by the woes of civilization (or at least not so much) Drop me a private note here and we can exchange emails and I can let you know what we find. It will be an adventure! We are going around our 10th year wedding anniversary and share in our half century birthdays of the same year. We decided we would knock it out of the park in 2011.

Where ever you go, what ever you decide to do in life, here is my advice to you in a word, "Passion."

Live life with a passion!
Life is precious, live it, love it, enjoy it.
Life, without passion, is not living!

Mr. Mays,
You are so right and it is my plan. It's been a rough 30 something years raising my two alone, and damit I've done a good job, they are great people. I've always told them exactly that. Guess it's time to practice what I've preached!
