just reading here has lifted my spirit, thank you all for posting so much info!
last month i found out that i have it, and can't tolerate the oral medicine so i am doing the shots… which really freaked me out.
well the whole thing really freaked me out to tell the truth. i cried, i did because i knew nothing about diabetes.
then i thought, well this may very well save my life, because eating healthy does that right? i don't know, i guess i am still sort of freaked.
it is scary, is it not? so far i am doing well, and have lost 18 pounds (yah me!) but i have so many questions! many of which i have found answers right here (yah ya'll).
so hi, i am anxious to learn more, and maybe one day be supportive to other new people.
thanks ever so much.

hi! i like this site too…it helped me alot. i don't get much time on the computer (have to fight off one of the kids!) but when i do, i find my way here fast..! you will make friends, get addicted to the discussions, and really learn alot from the articles and the recipes..! it is scarey. no doubt. your body is still getting used to the medications, give it time to adjust. you sugar isn't going to drop overnight into the perfect range, nor will it always stay there. just take it one day at a time and educate yourself. congrats on the weight loss, biggest help you can do for yourself. hardest battle to keep up, too. any questions, come here and post it…you will get all the help you need plus some! and there's always some that can help with a laugh or two…humor helps. just don't give up :)

thanks guys, petals, i am anxious for it to get better, its so confusing, like today, i am staying about 190… what? i don't even know why. today has been no different than any other day, maybe it was the order of the things i ate, or maybe too close together, i have no idea.
angelalock, i hope so too, i am so impressed with this place, my hubby and i both are. thanks for the welcomee.
thank you dr. gary, i think i need A LOT more knowledge, lol, just when i think i am doing well, i learn that i'm not. is it normal to have an up day with no real understanding of why? confusing is what it is. and am i damaging myself on a day like this?
jeannie, thanks, my dear hubby, of 21 years has all of the tell tell signs that he should have it, and don't. it doesn't run in my family either. 4 years, wow, do you have up and down days as well?

Oh yea! I think I'm having up and down months!!! : )

month? are you jesting? am i expecting too much out of myself? i just need to read some more. it seems like the more i learn the more abstruse it seems. but you don't read how you may not do well, and its normal. i only read how to do it, and how important it is to do it correctly. no parameters of normal, am i making sense? or just spouting from aggravation? everyone says how questions are welcome, but mine seem silly. i appreciate your time.

Normal varies from prson to person same for diabetic and non-diabetic. There are some ranges for normal given though. Age and other health issues are a couple of factors that affect what is considered normal. You and your Dr. can talk and decide what your normal should be.

Howdy seventy one!

First off I want to say a BIG WELCOME to DC!

Then I want to share my belief that the ONLY question which is silly / stupid / foolish is an HONEST question WHICH IS NOT ASKED!

Learning about diabetes (either 1 or 2) means learning what works FOR YOU! There are broad parameters of knowledge, yet the foods which spike my BG#s (may or) may not spike yours. We need to test, test, test to see what spikes us personally and what doesn't.

AT LEAST you are not in denial and letting your BG#s run wild. THAT will damage you BIG TIME (voice of experience here).

And "spouting from aggravation" is just OK too! We all get frustrated from time to time. It HELPS to talk about it. What better place than here among people who know the struggle you're going through 'cause most of us have "been there, done that" too.

Blessings to you and yours

I was diagnosed on March 2nd which wasn't all that long ago and I can assure you all that I had some very bizarre questions. There has not been a single person on this board that had made me feel stupid for asking anything. Keep those questions, comments, tips, suggestions and everything else going with us. This truly IS an amazing website and I am so close to so many people here that I will probably never meet in person. But I am hoping to win the $150 million lottery tonight so I guess nothing is impossible. Well, almost nothing. :)

Hi and welcome To DC!! Glad that you found this site. I cried to when I found out, I think that is a normal reaction. Just don't let it get you down. It does get better.

Hi! I just wanted to say that I am glad to see you here. You did two important things when you received your diagnosis. You acknowledged how you were feeling emotionally by sitting down and having a good cry. And you started getting yourself educated about how to stay healthy. Knowledge is power. Your post was honest and inspriing. Best wishes to you!

Welcome to DC Dragonfly. Those are my favorite things. They are so beautiful! I too had a bad time when i was dx. I thought they had mixed up the results and that dx was my husbands. He has it in his family. But it was me. I have had it for 4 years now. I am still learning everyday.

thank you Gabby, MAYS, and Amalia. tried to sleep, but it escapes me at present.
thought i would look up a new breakfast for in the morning, and found a bunch of them!

and Gabby, my name.. i would explain, but my reputation would be in peril! lol.
it was a dark, and stormy night… and there was tequila. I am so kidding.

(my granpa use to say, i was as peaceful as a dragonfly) i figure i need to be as peaceful as seventy one of them right now. i like 'a goal of good control', that sort of explains everything doesn't it?
I am excited to learn more, rarely are we given a diagnosis that we can actually do something about. I refuse to go down without a fight.
I sound so confident… I am not, but thats why i am here.

goodnight to you all, and thanks again, so much.

GabbyPA 2010-08-22 11:46:12 -0500 Report

LOL! I like that explanation. Confidence comes with knowledge. Knowledge comes with time. When I was first here, I knew very little, but I dove in and learned a lot. Most of it from here. You will do well, specially if you keep your humor, that is one of your best friends.

GabbyPA 2010-08-21 22:36:19 -0500 Report

Welcome to the community! I love your name...do you have that many? I have only 3, but I enjoy them dearly. (dragonflies that is)

I am so happy to hear that you are enjoying the site and learning all kinds of things. Being newly diagnosed is a shock to most people and it is an okay place to start. It doesn't go away so fast, but as long as you are working toward a goal of good control, you will do well. It sounds like you are on your way actually and if there is anything we can do to help, just let us know.

RAYT721 2010-08-22 07:52:06 -0500 Report

Gabby: would you like a frog?

seventyonedragonflies 2010-08-22 10:25:31 -0500 Report

lol, you need a hog nose snake, they consider frogs a delicacy! it may be a southern thing, but some of us eat those bad boys! well their legs… on my gosh that sounds disgusting!

Roy531 2010-08-22 10:51:00 -0500 Report

Welcome to the Family, actually frog legs are very good, in my younger days use to go hunting those bullfrogs. This is a great place to be, to learn, to share, and when need be to gripe a little bit.

Guardianstone 2010-08-22 16:19:54 -0500 Report

Hello Seventy one Dragonflies;
Love the name and the origin. Guardian Stone comes from the name I used when my best friend and I were writing partners.
I also have gone to a rattlesnake roundup. It was a fun day, but I didn't have any of the snake. Some one decided to cook the snake with hot sauce and peppers. That would have put me in the hospital. (severe allergic reaction). By the way, welcome to the site. Sorry this is a bit disjointed, bs is too high. I need to go for a walk.
Talk later

Guardian stone

hey ya'll, i haven't ever tried snake. turtle, and the frog legs i have. my fav. out of all the unusual meats is alligator, being from here (fl) it is a celebration when someone has some- great reason for a get together. they eat a lot of it in La. too. well, we had it often when we lived there. and ditch bugs, what are they called? oh gee… (waaaay too long of a pause lol) crawfish, (i had to go ask my joe haha.) i didn't care for them, and they smelled up the house like crazy! haha, you guys are the greatest.

GabbyPA 2010-08-22 11:43:05 -0500 Report

Your frogs are not big enough to eat. And yes, frog legs are good and while they have a texture similar to chicken, they don't taste like chicken at all.

There are some amazing people here with answers to some of your questions, prayers and thoughts for your bad days, encouragement for your good days and just a world of people from all walks of life that share what you have, are and will go through. Please let me know if there's anything that I can do for you. We are in this together. And you're right… the questions you have of us today will soon turn to the information that you'll be able to pass on to others tomorrow. I can relate to the "freaked out" comment.
