I understand that illesses such as diabetes; heart attack; and migrains can cause or worsen depression. In the inverse, takeing care of needy pets, friends or family sick or needing help, can sometimes decrease depression. In the last few years my husband and I have rescued 1 humming bird and two cats. they have help us as much as we heped them. Thoughts

Thank you Jeannie,
The dynamic duo (not the famous super friends) are posted on my site. When we were both sick with the flu they sat with us, cuddled up to keep us warm, and sang (Cat talk) to us. Without them we would have been lost. I was sick, then he was sick, then I . . . yo get the idea.
They are our angelic; devious; loving; troublemakers.

Yes Jeannie the little darlings are a great entertainment for the cost of a little bit of love.
They decided to get along with each other, and gang up on us.
At least they are having fun.

Keeping animals as pets is a personal choice.
Whether or not the companionship actually helps one medically, is also debatable.
I have observed (at times) pet owners taking better care of their pets than themselves, making medical appointments for their pets, yet their health becomes secondary, with some having more compassion for an animal than they do for another human being, for various reasons.

(I could never understand animal adoption over human child adoption)

I have owned pets in the past, so I don't knock pet ownership, if you find peace of mind in doing so, by all means, do it!

Hello M
I am sorry to have offended you. I wasn't saying that adopting a pet was the perfect solution for everyone. What I was trying to say was, that anything that distracts us from "I hurt, I don't deserve this, I am defective, I hate the world, or I hate me". When I can offer some one (people) or something a small bit of comfort, it takes away some of my depression. I and my husband feel better about ourselves. Neither my daughter nor my daughter's-in-law object to rescue animals.
If people or animals just need help and are able to go back to their lives they do. If animals have a need for home and love it is offered.
I'm sorry to be ranting, but I was offering a suggestion, not saying that animals are more important than people. This is something that has helped my husband and me. Not everybody is the same, it doesn't work for all.
I am sorry to have upset or anger you or anyone.

Guardian stone,

Let me turn that, : ( into a : ) !

I am not offended, nor was I trying to offend you, and your choice to help animals, I am a former pet owner, and parent.
If helping animals or humans, helps you n any type of way, please continue to do so, it's a good thing.

No offense give, taken or implied, we are all here to help, not to hurt.
Don't let my previous response discourage you from posting how you feel or what you believe, your discussion was a very worthy one, and my comment was just my personal opinion.
