I was just wonding if anyone else with type 2 diabetes if suffering with this as well. I went undiagnosed for 3+ years so it makes me wonder if some sort or damage was done because of the high sugars.

Howdy Ann

I had to be on Dialysis for approx 9 mos back in 2006-07. One of the things I learned at the clinic was that about 50% of dialysis patients are diabetic.

If you have pain in kidneys have your primary care Dr. do kidney blood & urine tests, (or ask to be referrred to a renal specialist) to see what's going on there. It might be kidney stones, or it might be something more life threatening. (Kidney stones, I'm told, are so painful you may wish you're dead).

My kidneys quit due to an infection and I had no pain. I went to bed the night before, (after I had had been dancing Fri, Sat, & Sun nights) I had nausea and vomiting on Sun night but it seemed to resolve by bedtime. I ended up on my bedroom floor and woke up 6 days later when my son found me. (I'd thought I'd only been "out" for 1 night, but it had been 6. ) Because Kidneys shut down I was poisoning myself with waste products in my blood stream that Kidneys were supposed to filter. I was fortunate that my kidneys started working well enough to stop dialysis about 9 mos later.

You have signs (pain) which should not be ignored. Please let your Dr know about them soon.

Check with your doctor, as a diabetic, one of the complications associated with uncontrolled diabetes is kidney damage \ kidney disease.
Whether or not someone else is or has experienced this is not important, what's important is your health, you are responsible for you!

Diabetes related complications can be health robbing and life threatening.

Don't take this response personally, or as an attack, I am always straight to the point, I believe in personal accountability and self motivation.

Do this for yourself, make an appointment to see your doctor.

agreed! I would have that checked out. You can do a home test to see also, but a doctor will be the best so you can also find a treatment to do for it. You don't want to mess with wondering about it. Find out.

Hi Ann,

I used to get kidney pain whenever my blood sugars would be high. What kind of numbers are you seeing these days now that you are diagnosed. What medications are you on, they might be part of the problem. How is your diet? There are many things that could make your back and/or your kidneys hurt. Have you talked to your doctor about it?

Hi Diane,
My numbers started in 500 and up I was first put on a oral medication but I had a really bad reaction to it so I was switched to lantus. My numbers are finally starting to go down to 198 when fasting which is a little better than 300. I have been very careful with my diet since being diagnosed a month ago. I am allowed 30-45 carbs per meal right now. To be honest once the numbers started coming down the pain wasn't as bad but I still stightly have it.
I am going to my doctor tomorrow and will definately bring this up to him.
Thanks for you input. ANN
