I have been participating in a survey being conducted by a new DC member, huhjina, with the University of Michigan.

Jina is seeking other volunteers to help her with research on the effects of diabetes support groups on diabetes management.

Although my survey responses are completely confidential I will tell you that I could not speak highly enough about Diabetic Connect and the wonderful online and offline friends that I have made here.

Might I write this discussion as a call to action to help Jina as well as our diabetic community by sending a friend invite to her here at huhjina or emailing her at jinah@umich.edu small with a subject of "Research Survey - DC?"

Knowledge is power! Stand up - Speak out - Be heard!!!

Thanks so much Ray. Ray has been so helpful in allowing me to know about DC and gain insights into the inner-workings of how support groups run online.

I am still actively looking for participants who are willing to talk about their experiences with online support groups (as well as offline ones if you have). I am interested in knowing how individual differences in diabetes and many other things in life and health come into play in getting help from online diabetes support groups. What works, and when do they break down? I am comparing what I am finding here with offline support groups and how these help related social dynamics differ. The end goal would be to use the study results to inform better design implications for online diabetes support groups, and furthermore health communities and other support mechanisms.

I am ready to be bombarded with those who are willing to share and help the research if you let me.

I would love to help you out. Ray is completely right here too. To make a difference, sometimes we must stand up, speak up, and be heard. Talking is thought to be the most prevalent ways of communicating. Let me know what I can do to help you out. This support group has been a god sent gift from above for me…

Hi Ray! Sounds like something I'll have to venture into tomorrow. Since most of the day, I'll be in bed resting and getting better. For once there is someone out there willing to let us be heard and not judged and for a good cause.

I agree… I find the questions thought provoking. What do I like most about DC that I don't find on other support groups? SUPPORT!!! :)

Yes, we need to be doing that. Thank you for the post. I hope she is ready to get bombarded with those of us who want to share.

I hope she is bombarded with volunteers to help her as well. I told her this is the best group that I'd found. Can we all just take a few moments to prove me right?
