I use the side of my fingers to. I heard there is not as many nervers on the side of the finger so it makes it less painfull

There are different wire gauge sizes of lancets… the smaller the gauge the easier and less painful to test. (note that most lancet devices are adjustable). I use a 26 gauge lancet from Walgreens and have no complaints with pain or the little dark marks that thicker lancets sometimes leave. A friend of mine tests in the fattier part of her hand by the thumb but some people don't get enough of a sample from that area. I don't. You can try it there because it is far less painful.

One thing also is if you have dry skin or use alcohol pads before you test. Avoid the alcohol by washing your hands with warm soap and water. If you can keep your hands moisturized , that will help a lot. Winter is hard on us for sticking our fingers because of that. I also use the sides of my fingers and never the tips. That way I can type without pain, and I type a lot! LOL

my diabetic counsellor said i can't use alcohol because i bruise so easily and also it gives me a rash, she said it is ok to just clean the area with a wet cloth first as an alternative. so if the alcohol is that bad for you, you could always try that.

Hello amd welcome
If it stings I ajust the depth of the poker to stop it from stinging
aswell as doing the stick off just a little from center of the finger.
They make the lancets that are very thin now you may wish to check them out.
Best wishes

That is what I had to do too. Have you ever tried poking from the side of the finger? It was a little trick I learn from my mother with her diabetes.

i didn't try that until refcently even though they'd said it could work because i didn't realize they meant so far down and was doing the side of the fingertip, but when i was in the hospital having baby logan they did it further down, only for me that area seems more sensitive so i don't go there much. generally my middle finger hurts the least on my left hand. my right hand is numb tho so don't feel it there at all.
