Diabetic Connect Members,

This is our community, let's protect it !

Member "Bettymachette" started a discussion that pertains to all of us and the integrity of this site:

http://www.diabeticconnect.com/discussions/77...

When new members, family, friends, the curious and others visit this site for the first time, we do not want them to discouraged or dismayed by the vulgar, trash that some very inconsiderate pranksters (I'm being nice) have posted here.

People come here seeking help, support and answers to their questions.
Some leave after viewing the nonsense, never to return.

If you see or read something that is offensive, please report it, don't leave it to and for the next member.
I believe in freedom of expression, but some thoughts should be left exactly where they are, concealed in one's mind.

Let's all protect our community.

(Thanks Bettymachette)

Happy day,
All I have to say is that God gives you what you need when you need it. This is what Michael & I need & now is the time we need it. Thanks to all for loving on me (us) & letting me love on you all. Be blessed & stay favored by the Lord.

I give thumbs up to this post/discussion and have witnessed (and reported) some of the insane ramblings of those poor home bound teens with obviously nothing better to do. Back in the old days it was the phone calls of "is your refrigerator running" that occupied the teens but technology has come to the point of trying to find larger audiences to target. One such post told me that my face was creepy and I looked like I was about to die soon. There are criminal laws against the kinds of comments that these "hackers" are making especially when it comes to sexual, racial and other slurs and slanders. The best thing to do when witnessing insanity is to ignore it. Responses only fuel the fire if these people think they have an audience. This is without a doubt the BEST diabetic (and life) support site that I have found on the web. Take it from the guy with the creepy face who is about to die soon that I love you all and hope you're as happy with this site as I am. We are here for each other!!! Thanks to Mays as usual for the thought provoking message and advice.

Ray,
Do you have "Olive Oil" in a can ?
You better let her out, or "Popeye" is going to get you !

I had to laugh at that one years ago after witnessing some children repeatedly calling telephone numbers at random from a telephone book.

Priceless now, but not then !

Hi Mays,

You know, many times I try to figure out why people do things like this. What is going through their heads? This site, like many others, were born to help people, so why would anybody would want to trash it? So far, it is beyond my comprehension.

Hello Emilia,

I also have no reasonable explanation for behavior such as this.

My only supposition is that they are similar to the vandals who destroy public and private property. They actually have nothing to protest; they just feel a need to destroy something. *shrug*

Elrond, I think you have hit the nail on the head. There are those who create and give when and where they can. Then there are some with enough self loathing or inability to create , love, or care what or who they hurt or even destroy.

I would like to add that we should not contribute to the mix. If you find an offensive post or photo, please just ignore it. Don't validate it with any kind comment even if it is to chastise that poster. We do our best to take down those offensive posts, replies and photos as soon as we can. We need the extra eyes of you to help us with that and you all have done a great job.

Unfortunately, as we grow, so does the exposure to those kinds of things. Please know that it is not our desire to ignore any of these, so even if you just suspect something, please, please report it.

Here here…I fully agree with you here. It is bad enough we have to deal with the every day battles of our diabetes. We all here do not need to deal with ignorant or inappropriate behavior of others. It can be very hurtful and hard for some.

We need to promote a positive, informative atmosphere.
We have a great site here, great members and great information, let's try to keep it this way.

Mays, by the time I was done reading this I was actually physically clapping for you…would you consider running for president???

I think this is a great post, because often times it does happen where someone says "not my problem" or "let someone else handle it" If these thoughts keep happening then it will never get fixed.

If we all stick together and not let someone degrade or harrass our site, it will be that much stronger and better because of it!!!
