I was coming home from work one day with a box of whoppers I had picked up for the kiddies(heh, heh), well, I really was'nt hungry but I ate some anyway. Now I don't usually eat candy but when and if I get started well you know. Anyway I ate a half a box on the way home. I had worked 15 hrs starting 1:30 a.m. . It took 1 and 1/2 hrs to drive one way and the same back. When I got home that day it was aroud 4 PM. I went to the couch to read my journal when all of a sudden and I mean sudden my whole body started aching. I was shivering. Now it was a 90 degree day. I put on a sweater, sweatpants and got under a comforter with the air con off - I was still shivering. I took a walk around the block with my daughter and thought that might help - nope - I could barely make it. I took my temp it was 104. I thought this was it and made my calls because it came on so fast and I could'nt control it. I wound up in the hospitol for a week - they did'nt know what was going on. My white blood cell count was 24000+ , my sugar was high so they gave me metaphorin. The pain I experienced was unbelievable. When I told the doc I thought it was from the whoppers he laughed and said impossible! All I know is I thought I was gonna die and that I would limit my sugar intake to nill. My leg eventually became the focus as it was inflamed, spotted with pussy bumps, extremely painful therefore difficult to walk on, and swollen to twice the size. What do you think happened?

Hope everything is working out for you. I have bouts of the same thing - fever, pain, swelling of the leg. It took about 6 months but I was finally diagnosed with cellulitus in the legs. It starts with an infection that starts somewhere on the leg. I never had mine get that bad. I did have a lot of swelling and discoloration. Take a couple of weeks to clear-up. It takes about 2 weeks on antibotics and a day or two off work. Don't know if it is the same or not, but worth a shot. I really hope things are improving.

That sounds horrible…did your leg swelling come down ok? Since it was a year ago, have you healed up from all of the problems? Just wondering..

Blessed Be

The swelling came down. A chiropracter used repeated laser therapy on the leg and finally all discoloration and swelling disapated. I have dramatically altered my diet and coffee intake. I mainly watch my sugar intake and have given more focus to exercise - which doesn't come easy I might add. Since then, I have had no more bouts or probs although I find myself more sensitive to my body's reactions , I guess listen your body kind of thing as I don't want to experience that again - God willing. So far so good. Thanks, Vicki, for your response.

It sounds like bugs.

Really, I don't know, but the bumps on your leg and the infection sound like the cause of your illness. Now you just have to find out what caused the bumps.

The discovery of my dad's diabetes took a spider bite to get him to the hospital. It was a brown recluse and it nearly destroyed his leg, all from a small spider bite. The diabetes made it worse, and the combination was horrific. So you could have had a bunch of little bugs or spiders bite you to cause the bumps, and the rest just goes with it.

A bug bite was initially considered. To them it was ruled out as they could not find any bite marks. But, if they were smaller, bite marks would probably have been undetected. Smaller spiders, I had'nt thought of that, and brown recluse, we have those in this area and there was an unusal outbreak of them at the time. Thank you Gabby, appreciate it, very helpful.

I just know what one bite can do. I could not imagine what a whole bunch at a time would do.

I was bitten once on a hike. Never knew it happened, thought it was a pimple. It was not. OMG, that thing grew and when my husband would drain it, it left a hole in my side. We finally went to the doctor and he gave me a series of shots to deal with it. Even several years later, if I was not careful, it would re-occur. It was crummy. I have not had an issue with it for years now, but spiders can be a mess, specially if you run into a poisonous one. I still have a hole or a dent if you will from it all.

Oh my gosh! What a terrible story! I sympathise with you. My guess would be an infection of sorts. I'm not a doctor so I can only guess. Last summer I started shivering in the middle of a 100 degree day and it turned out to be a lung infection. I really wish I could have been more help but all I can do is guess. Also because I've had the same experience with being cold on a very hot day I'd say infection was the cause.

Yeah, it was a trip. It happened 1yr ago last week in July. You know when you get older your body has a way of letting you know what you can and cannot do anymore. Oh well, appreciate the response. BK

I think you had a infetion and the extra sugar may have tipped you over the edge or you just had a bad infetion.
Best wishes

I appreciate the response. It was an interesting experience. It happened a year ago last week in July. It had the doctors baffled. Thanks , BK
