Hello everyone. I have a question. Would you consider a BG of 211 to be high or is that ok ? I'm wondering because it is in the low 200's if that is considered acceptable? Please help. Thank you all so much for helping a newbe like me out! :)

I know how you feel. I used to consistently have numbers in the 200's and was thrilled they were not 300's anymore. So perhaps some context is required.

I know also that you don't want to stay there and while you may feel better about them, don't be satisfied. I was not on meds for several months trying to reduce my levels with diet and exercise and I worked hard. It just was not enough. You may need to discuss it with your doctor to see what you can do to find ways to lower them.

Don't be disheartened. As long as you are getting them down instead of up, you are moving in the right direction. It takes time to get the meds and diet to all work out.

You have to sit down with your diabetes team and look into your diet and nutrional needs and habits, stress and lifestyle (stress raises your blood glucose) medical history, meds and the needs for them, etc., has your doctor determined if you are insulin resistant ?
Do you excercise on a daily basis (?) so many factors need to be taken into consideration.
What does your doctor say about your high glucose levels ?

Persistence, practice and patience. Sometimes it takes more exercise, less carbs and more exercise. Sometimes it could be a calm day for your self, a little less on the go and following a schedule that you can keep. Sometimes it just takes dumb luck. Work it out with your medical team, and never give up. Keep on trying.

I agree that it high, but I do disagree that anything over 140 is high. I think anything over 200 is high, the reason I say that is because I have had diabetes for over thirty years and have had some good and some really bad ones, and anything under 200 is good but that is my opion. I would suggest that you talk to your doctor and see what they say.

That is considered high.
Alan is correct, you should work on trying to get your numbers lower than that.
You can do it, remember this, you are in control of your diabetes, YOU must be the DICTATOR to Diabetes !

Thank you mays ! I do need to work harder on this! I ate bad (a cheeseburger) and because I wasn't like 400 I thought I might be ok but I see now that I'm running high more than I thought! Gosh anything over 140 like alan said is high! Ugh! Why don't the doctors tell us newbies more information! It is about what I put in my mouth isn't it! Pills or no pills if I put bad stuff in bad numbers come out! Thank you so much! Sometimes I'm slipping back into a sort of denial and fool my self into thinking 200 is ok. I know it sounds crazy and I don't really know why I'm doing that! I see its only hurting me! Thank you much for your support!

Diabetes is very complex, a lifetime of learning and monitoring, what a job!

realsis: don't even get me started on how unsympathetic (or just pathetic) the medical community is to diabetics. That would be a discussion for me all to itself. I just want you to know that a cheeseburger in itself isn't gonna push your numbers up… it's the bread or bun option (carbs) that would have had the effect. Please don't feel that you can't ever eat burgers, pancakes, or sweets/snacks but use your meter to test WHICH of these will have the least impact on your glucose while providing you with nutrients, healthy fats, healthy sodium levels, etc. Food is good for us but it's finding the right foods that will lower your numbers and raise your awareness.

any BG over 140 is high those numbers you have are not acceptable. You need to work on getting those numbers down lower.

Thank you allan. I'm sometimes finding myself in that denial again. I know I'm only hurting myself. I'm very greatful to have honest support from people like yourself. I see I'm running high more than I realised so over 140 is high! Wow! I have some work to do don't I ! :)Thank you again
