Blood pressure testing is very important for diabetics.

How often do you test your blood pressure ?
Do you own a blood pressure monitor ?
Do you know the importance of testing your blood pressure ?
Do you know why Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) is called "The Silent Killer?"
Do you know the symptoms of high blood pressure ?

I got my own monitor for BP since I'm on Bp med and didn't want to keep asking my neighbor to check it for me. Use to check it at least twice a day but now that my med is working right, I only check it 2 or 3 times a week unless I'm feeling off and know it isn't my BG causing it.

I try to test BP every day, Usually do, but sometimes skip when I have to leave the house quickly in AM. I got in the habit cause I had to take Jem's BP each AM. I belong to a Blood pressure site and they state I should take BP 2x/day.

The website is "Novartis BP Connection". Unfortunately they are an invitation only survey site (and I don't have the power to invite). It is run by the drug company Novartis' marketing research department, picking our brains to see how people react to various things. Kind of like an online focus group. It is nowhere near as much fun as DC is.

If anyone is interested in a contact email to try to get in, please email me using the DC email system.

I found it interesting that what I was doing to help my diabetes really helped my blood pressuer. I've been able to cut my meds in half, both metformin & BP meds simply by trying to take care of my diabetes.

You know, I never thought much about this. I get mine tested at the doctor's office when I go, and it's pretty good, so I just never thought to monitor it at home.

That's my reason for posting this discussion to bring attention to high blood pressure, most people overlook the importance of self monitoring of their blood pressure, many are only tested when they have a doctors appointment.

Thanks Mays. I am going to start checking it. Don't really know why I haven't. Just that I don't know if I want to know how STRESS makes it jump…and I don't handle stress well, and can't avoid it! But it can only be a good thing…need to know it. Knowledge is power.
