I have chronic pelvic pain & have had 4 surgeries in the past 4 years & my pelvic pain continues.

I went to see a doctor & when I told him I'm type 2 diabetic he said that it's probably neuopathy, the problem is , My pain is in it's 4 th year my diabetes is in its' first year.

I thought neuropathy comes from not taking care of your diabetes for a long time.

Does anyone know?

I'm not surprised to hear what you say about getting neuropathy before a diabetes DX. This also happened to me. I was being tested for all sorts of things for over 2 years before someone came up with my having pre-diabetes. All were shocked I had such bad neuropathy. But honestly, if I was the one testing me, I would blame it on being on an anti-depressant for 8 years prior, that I stopped taking. Then 2 weeks after I stopped, the neuropathy started. So maybe, just maybe…that anti-depressant was hiding my diabetes for those years & that's why I have it so bad and also before the Diabetes DX.
Were U by any chance on any anti-depressants before developing your neuropathy ? A lot of them disguise Diabetes readings. I didn't know this…or I never would have gone on so long without having it checked.I could have had uncontrolled Diabetes for all of those 8 years, but I'll never know now. I just know I'm suffering a great deal from the neuopathy, & I blame doctors for not giving me warning this could happen. Dislike most doctors since all they seem to do is, "practice".And some of them…never "get it".
Sorry to hear of your scary experience. Mine is nothing in comparison. And I'm glad your doing better, tho not up to par. Blessings.

I started getting Neuopathy a year after I was DX and my bs we're really under control. I have a doctor that checked every year for diabetes so I know I didn't have it sooner. Every thing you read says your not supposed to have these problems unless you are out of control for a lot of years. NOT TRUE!

I just came from my dr today and found that yes, neuropathy can, in some instances, precede diabetes. And I don't mean that you go to the dr for the neuropathy to find you have been diabetic. I was informed today that neuropathy can set in before a person is diabetic. Now I'm not sure if being pre-diabetic for a long period has any bearing on that. I did see something to that effect in another discussion. Hope this helps.

Because of my 4 years of pain, I 've had a surgery each year and I have the blood work results, I wasn't diabetic until after lupron injections. then Bam! So based on those pre surgery tests, I wasn't close to being a diabetic.

so at the most I believe I've only had it about a year & a half. I could be wrong, I'm trying to get in with an endocrinologist.

I'll be anxious to see what he says

My sister wasn't Diabetic until after she went thru chemo for her breast cancer, so I guess U never know how it develops. Would be nice if we did know, tho.

Some people can have type 2 for a decade or more without being diagnosed. It's also not uncommon for neuropathy being the reason somebody goes to the doctor that results kin a diabetes diagnosis.

I was lucky I was DX after a vacation that I was on and I was grumpy the hole time and thats just not me at all. My mom was in such pain all the time and they asked her if she knew she was diabetic I think she knew for a long time befor she was realy DX and even when she did know she didnt take care of it and that was how she passed on your bod can only take so much and then it gives out.
Best wishes

That is my case. The bothersome weird feeling of my feet is what prompted me to seek a diagnosis. I knew it was a symptom. I think I had diabetes about 2 years before I was diagnosed.
