This may sound silly, but everyone seems to know the exact date of their diagnosis (mine was May 21, 2003). Do you guys do anything to "celebrate" or commemorate your anniversary of getting diabetes?

I try to turn it into a positive day by giving myself a little gift each year. See this link for details:

What do you do?

My 1 year with T2 was just yesterday 02/07/2013. I really didn't to much to "celebrate" however I did take a few to reflect back and look at how far I have come since then.

I have a long way to go, but at least I'm getting there!

September 12, 2008. It was a triple whammy: Diabetes, high blood pressure and Cellulitis in both legs. I am now under control but not sure if it is ok to celebrate finding out you have a disease. If I do decide to celebrate, how do I do it? Not sure on that either.

in our area they have specials at times at the hospitals or festivals, fair, etc where they do blood screen tests, for bargin price. The test you want to look for is A1C .. it gives your average for about a three month period of time. They advertize it in our local newspapers with the info when they do this.

I don't remember mine.. but it was aprox 4 yrs ago when I found out.. I asked my Dr to test me for it as it ran in the family.. Dad and Brother had it.. sure enough I did too. Than my Sister and Mother also tested positive after I did. So it didn't spare anyone.

The date I found out was in Feb. 1989. But the doc said that I have had it a lot longer than that.

I don't remember the date of my diagnosis. However, I know that I've been a diabetic for four years. I don't celebrate my anniversary. I do know that I'm healthier now than ever because I was willing and able to change my eating and exercise habits. As some of you may know, I'm off metformin now. I lost 38 pounds, and that made a huge difference in my BG fasting counts. I plan to lose 30 more pounds. I like the idea of celebrating the date that my doctor and I decided that it was OK to stop taking metformin. I had terrible side effects. My A1c was 5.5-5.6. Connie

Hi everyone,

I have been checking the site on a wkly basis but have not contributed. I think that I am still adjusting to my new dx of diabetes.I found out I had it on 7/1/08. I seemed to be having problems with my left ft. The doctor says it is neuropathy ( I think I spelled it wrong). My sugar also is still out of wack. Anyway after all that cheery news ( lol)…I will try to take my negatives and turn them into positives. I want you all to know that I still appreciate you all being on this site because I have learned some things. Thank you.

My date is April 7, 2008 and I haven't been in this long enough to celebrate an anniversary yet, but I do thank God for all the progress I have made in a very short period of time.

We remember the date because it was such a shock and profound change (and not for the better) in our lives.

Mine was Easter Sunday this year (2008) so I have not "celebrated" the day yet. After the initial "wow! I can't believe it is really happening to me" feeling...I have found many little things along the way to celebrate. Lower numbers, weight loss, more activity, greater accomplishements and confidence. Of course the best of all, finding this site and making lots of friends who understand!!

So I imagine next year, I will look back and see how far I have come and dance a happy jigg. Now that would be quite a site to see. LOL

My exact date is may 1, 1996. It is funny how I remember the exact date and I'm ashmed to admit I sometimes stumble when it comes to my boys birthdates when someone asks. I haven't done anything in the past but I think I might start since I've started to get into the double digits.
