Diabetes doesn't care if you are fat or skinny. It is something inside us that gets out of wack. Type 2 is more common and while it used to be less common in the youth, it is increasing. Some say due to weight, but many say it is our "western" diets of junk food and processed foods that is our demise. Often, those things also lead to being overweight, so that is why there is often a connection made.

One of the biggest telling signs of that is when you look at a traditionally "healthy" nation such as Japan. Now that they have added all the junk foods to their diets, they are finding they are having similar problems with weight and disease as we are.

Type 2 is far more common worldwide. Weight is interesting, there is a link between type 2 and being overweight but its not fully understood. Is it cause or effect?
