I work outside in the smothering heat all day long like 8 to 10 hours a day. I am 6'7", 222lbs and I am a type two diabetic and I am having trouble keeping my energy. I drink plenty of water, gatorade, and poweraid but they just don't do the job. I don't eat like I'm suppose to b/c I just don't have an appetite. I know that is one of the problems but if I don't feel like eating a meal, what are some other foods that I can eat to give me energy that wont feel me up.

On top of everything thast these wonderful people have suggested…when was the last time you had your blood pressure checked??? If it has been some time… go and have it taken!!! Elevated/ high blood pressure can make you feel sluggish and tired.

Energy will come from carbs. Your gatoraid and energy drinks will give you a boost, but they will also get used up fast because they are straight carbs. As mentioned, adding some kind of protein or fat such as cheese, meat, nuts or whole grain fibers will help a lot in extending your energy levels. You don't have to eat a lot, but if you are loosing your energy you are not getting enough food in your system. This could be part of the weight issue you had mentioned in your other post as well.

The heat is rough on anyone, and there are certain risks that are bigger as a diabetic. Here is a good article on dealing with hot weather. http://www.diabeticconnect.com/news-articles/5843-many-diabetics-unaware-of-hot-weather-hazards

Happy day Dubbledip,
I agree w/Harlen that is how I pack my husband food when he was working. Snacks for him to have thru out the day but as Harlen said the good stuff. Fruits nutts (if you can eat) water sometimes he would put the arizona green tea packs w/gingseng in his water bottles. I will be standing on the wall for you concerning this for you need to be around for your family. May God continue to share His mercy & grace w/you & yours.

Working 4 Jesus, & Loving it,

thanks for your input on this. I will try it and see if helps. I have to try something because, I have to work and I need the energy to do that, I have feeling sluggish and not be able to perform like I should. My boss understands what I'm going through because he is a diabetic also.
