It sounds like you are doing some good things, so keep doing that. Sometimes when you exercise when you are too high, you can make your levels go higher. So make sure you are testing before you exercise and that you are below 300 when you start.

How many carbs do you consume in a meal? Maybe you can spread them out a little more or add some more protein or more leafy greens to help lower your levels. Sometimes it is just the type. Like I cannot eat corn anything. Others can. I count those carbs the same, but they make me spike no matter how little or what form I eat it in. Maybe something is triggering a spike that you are not aware of.

400 with 8 shots a day is very high, so I for sure would talk to your doctor. Keep track of it, so you can show him/her what is happening and when. That can help with your treatment. Test before and after your meals as well as your exercise and write all that down so you have things you can show your doctor to help give insight to the highs.

Another thing that can help is drinking more water. I don't know how much you drink now, but that helps flush out the sugar from the blood stream.

You might also want to do a stress test. With your surgeries, it could be something such as stress on your body that will raise your levels when you exercise.

We are such complicated creatures to be sure. Let us know if any of these things help out.

Hi Laura,
I am new to this board but not new to diabetes. Had it for 20 years. I have made a study of diabetes for the last 15 years or so. I suspect you maybe confused about
carbohydrates and fiber. If you tell me about what your meal is like when you have
such high glucose levels, I think I may be able to help you. I have helped many diabetics get their glucose down and I think I may be able to help you as well.

I eat like for lunch a salad with romain lettuce grape tomatoes cucumbers grilled chicken, cheese, maybe some avacado if I have it, ranch dressing. it really seems no matter what I eat , my sugar is high. its high first thing in the morning , before I eat anything.
