I just brought my husband home from the hospital. He was admitted for hyperglycemia (623) and has been a diabetic for 12 years. Yesterday, I found out I have Type 2 and was started on metformin. Recently, I had stopped using artificial sweetners due to my fibromyalgia. If I can't use sugar and can't use artificial sweetners, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Is there a way you can wean yourself off the sweet? I drink my tea without any kind of sweetener it in. There are other things I sweeten, but tea, specially if it has a flavor, it can be unsweet and taste great. You just have to get used to it.

There are some great alternatives out there now. Try any of the stevia based sweeteners. There is pure stevia that comes in powder and liquid form. Or you can get a stevia based sweetener such as Purvia, Truvia, or Stevia in the raw. There are also a lot of other ones you can find in health food stores, but I don't have experience with them.
