Doctor at one time said that I was a Diabetic and that I had Diabetes—Type 2. Now he is saying that I do not have Diabetes—-Type 2! How do I find out if I do. I do not really and truly trust this doctor at all. He is a county doctor. I am on Medicaide and Medicare!

You can always buy a blood sugar meter and test your blood sugar for a few weeks. Wal-Mart sells a meter for around $10.00 and a box of 50 strips for $20.00. Should last a week or two.

Fasting blood sugar first thing in the morning when you wake up should be below 100. I think over 125 or 135 means you may be diabetic. You should also test 1 hour after each meal. If you go over 200 you got a problem. 1 hour after eating I believe should be under 140. Between 140&180 isn’t to bad.

I found by testing before and 1-2 hours after eating what spiked my blood sugar and either cut back or eliminated the foods from my diet.

I found that drinking lots of water and eating lots of low carb vegetables helped bring my blood sugar down to normal levels in about 2 months. I also had to stop eating bread, pasta, potatoes and most foods that contain more than 5-6 net carbs per serving

Good luck

Hi,BillieSue and welcome to DC. To find out if you are diabetic you need to get a blood glucose test. This will let you know if you are diabetic.

Billie Sue, Alanbossman is correct, you need a Glucose tolerance test. It is a lengthy test, but the results are correct when finished. I had the same test to diagnose my hypoglycemia. Some Country doctors are wonderful, I had a doctor that came to homes or we went to his house for treatment. However, everyone needs a doctor they trust with their care. It is important to have a doctor and a caring office staff to support you and your questions
